Overheard: Palin's surprising new base?
Today I sat at a cafe in a booth behind a booth filled with four young men just graduated from high school. Loading up on carbs, they were about to go do some weight training. Clean cut, athletic young men. One might think that on a Saturday morning they would be talking about football or girls or movies.

Nope. The topic? Sarah Palin. They were extremely excited about the Palin candidacy. Reasons?

"She is commander in chief of the best-trained National Guard in the country."

"A governor has way more experience than a U.S. senator."

"She's tough as nails."

They went on and on and on, and they talked about her to the waitress and even to the cook.

Oboy. New, fresh voters.

3. Clearly, they were already interested in McCain.
If Palin was Obama's running mate, they would not have been talking this way.

McCain is not winning hoardes of new voters with this ploy...sorry.

7. oddly enough...
....it was in a very, very blue part of a blue town in a blue state. I nearly fell out of the booth; it's so unusual to hear any conservatism in urban areas of the Pacific Northwest.

11. Something tells me these gullibles were not going to vote Dem anyway.
They better thank their lucky stars that in spite of their naivete, the world will never see a McCain presidency that would put their clean-cut, athletic tushes into the midst of yet another criminal invasion and occupation where they would have to look back and reflect -- "WTF were we thinking?"

17. Comm.-in-chief of the best trained national guard in the country???
Who are they fighting in Alaska, and what has their commander-in-chief done? She trained them? WTF? From now on, every governor is a military expert because they have their state national guards under their command. Salvation army counts too.
