What do you believe?

1. Of course
Over the years I have seen things lifted directly from here many many times.

2. Yep. Me too!
Just not always what we want. In fact, it is rarely what we want that is lifted.

12. True that
its often not what we would want them to lift but more and more I see things lifted from here directly just the same.

3. I suspect that the greater impact is what we do when we are active...
In our own communities, or phonebanking to other states, etc.

And the extent to that any of us participate in other discussions or net activities is meaningful.

All these actions have an impact, I've no doubts about it.

4. Oh certainly.....and I won't say otherwise.....
But the game of politics is played on many different fronts, which is why Obama and McCain have been too close in polls for comfort.

21. Played on some levels we don't even know about, afraid to say...
Like forms of voter fraud, voter disenfranchisement.

We've got to be more vigilant than ever before!

5. Exactly. Most registered Democrats have never even heard of DU.

7. I'm not asking if registered Democrats have ever heard of DU.
That isn't the question.

13. Yes, one of my posts was quoted last night by the guy filling in for Rachel Maddow
I think it was John Elliot. He compared Alaska to the city of Albuquerque in population which is what I posted about yesterday. I have heard Thom Hartman quote a number of DUers as well as Randi Rhodes and others. Stephanie Miller read directly from a sarcastic DU post everyone who was dead to him. It was a parody on some of the angry Clinton supporters.

15. No impact on the MSM, hence no significant effect on the election.

16. I Give Credit To Other Sites...
DKos, Talking Points Memo and Media Matters do get the eyes of some in the corporate media. I think it's great that Olbermann posts regularly on Kos...and I know he uses those sites for researching the stories he reports. I am sure Rachel will do the same.

DU is like a watercooler...a place to gossip and follow what's going on...LBN and GD are great places to keep up-to-the-minute, but it's reactive here, not pro-active.

18. AirAmerica often mentions DU threads
so I'd say that we are definitely being monitored by the media.

19. Other, as in a little of "All of the above" plus
many will come here to vent and laugh and giggle and say things they can't say out "there".

They are simple folks like us and they need a place to blow off steam like we do.

Also, consider it a place to plant trial balloons, to test how topics will play out.

Maybe they considered looking into the mother issues and after reading all the posts here realize how sexist and little some of it can be.

20. In the heady days of Takebackthemedia.com
Which was born because of the DU, and with DU'rs help we were able to affect the media on several occaisions.. Whenever I appeared on O'Reilly, Scarborough (twice), Lou Dobbs and other events I always tried to give a shoutout to the DU and it's denizens :)

We Forced CNN to put Back 750 words they'd redacted (important stuff) from a Hans Blix report in one afternoon Pre Iraq war..

Then there was the Limbaugh Boycott, impossible without the DU, a leaner, meaner DU interested in going After these guys instead of constant concern troll attacks, and drive-by slams..

When our site got sued by Michael Savage for a half a million bucks it was a DU'rs sister, a lawyer who helped save our bacon, that, and a generous donation by some here and Janeane Garofalo, who also hooked us up with help, Robert Greenwald before he made all those progressive classics, and Norman Lear..

This place was a hotbed, and could be again if people would band together more.. Sort of fractured now, but we saw that coming.. :)

Thanks to everyone that rocked with us in those days, let's hope my book can create some waves, if I can find the right Agent :)
