NFP would certainly be a viable option when only a few cycles were involved.

A late-in-life baby would be consistent with that as well, since cycles tend to get unpredictably screwy (and often women tend to assume they're no longer fertile and get a bit lax with whatever their birth control option is) during perimenopause.
