The obvious political stunt for women is more insulting than any DU post
I say this as a suburban wife, mother and "soccer mom".

To think that this pick would sway those that admire and previously supported an accomplished, intelligent woman like Hillary makes my blood boil.

1. I couldn't agree more!
This is a slap in the face to women. Yet it's politics as usual for the GOP! Palin is the Harriet Meyers of this election - an unqualified loyalist (& extremist). This nomination just makes me think of the fact that the dozen or so African-Americans that belong to the Repub party all seem to be their spokespeople now! This is the one kind of affirmative action the Repubs like!

2. this is the rhetoric that defines DU - K & R
Its the pathetic, obvious, and epitome of gender pandering.

McCain made his first major decision a failure.

3. I think the fact that he had to choose the beauty queen with no experience made it more of an insult
If McCain wanted a woman he could have chosen someone like Olympia Snowe or Kay Bailey Hutchinson who at least have the qualifications to be Vice President (I am not saying they would be good Vice Presidents as I don't believe that, but their resumes would at least be fitted to the position.) Instead of choosing a qualified woman though he chose the beauty pageant winner who has no experience, but at least Republican men can have a pin-up girl as their Vice President. It really is an insult to women.

4. So we're competing with the GOP to see who the biggest sexist assholes are?
Is that your point?

6. I think the point is that for the GOP to say that she will woo
Hillary voters is disgusting. She's no Hillary.

She is completely unqualified. There are a lot of Republican women who ARE qualified who would have been much better choices.

Great to see you, BTW!!

8. great to see you too!
oh i know the GOPers are idiots, and she embarrassed herself by comparing herself to Hillary..
i just don't think it's a reason for Dems to think they can also be sexist prigs... you know because we are not as bad as them. I hope we're a little better than that. I don't think sexist rhetoric is okay just because she is being used for her femaleness. I think it's post- acceptable under all circumstances against all women, same as racism is held to be beyond the pale.

7. No, my point is what constitutes genuine outrage
No DU post re: this woman reaches the level of insult I feel from the GOP's condescension.

24. i just don't think we need to throw the word bimbo around is all. we didn't for Quale
why is it imperative for people to insist it's okay to use sexist language? it reflects poorly on them more than it does their subject.

21. I don't know if that's true, "more insulting", 'cause there've been some pretty insulting DU posts..
... but I definitely think McCain's insulting disregard for the intellect of voters, especially female voters, is a whole truckload more relevant an issue in this election than any DU post could ever be.

(Here's hoping we get to a better place, eventually.)
