Palin intended to energize "values voters"?
Still trying to make sense of the pick, but I see that Jim Dobson from Focus on Fascism has announced that he would gladly vote for the McCain/Palin ticket. This is significant, since Dobson made a big deal about how he could never bring himself to vote for McCain when he became the presumptive nominee.

I wonder if Palin is intended to solidify the GOP advantage with "values voters" (i.e. fundie whackjobs)?

Dr. James Dobson, a prominent evangelical leader who once said he would not vote for John McCain "under any circumstances," announced in the last hour that he planned to vote for McCain.

The announcement by the head of Focus on the Family, an influential Colorado-based ministry, came Friday afternoon at a conservative outreach meeting in Minneapolis, which had been organized by the McCain campaign. "If flip-flopping is a sin, then I am a sinner," Dobson told the group, according to a first-person account of the address, which was confirmed by Dobson's office.

3. She's the Rapture candidate.
No doubt the fundies see a McCain/Palin ticket as the quickest way from here to Armageddon.

4. Makes perfect sense
If by some horrible twist of illegal activities these two were elected, all the fundies would be on their knees praying for god to call Insane home.

6. It seems that the attempted war with Georgia and Russia
didn't quite work out like the GOP planned. Though Dick Cheney is still over there trying to move the countries to war, in a last ditch effort to show how strong the GOP is when it comes to national security. But American voters don't seem to have rallied round the GOP in a scared and quivering mass, begging for protection.

Now the GOP is moving the attention to their only domestic issue that keeps the fearful and ignorant coming to them for protection - wacko fundie Christ-less Christians' favorite topics - Guns, Gays and Abortions. Almost trivial issues when compared to the coming economic meltdown and world war but the GOP has to use whatever its got.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that read "I'm a Christian, I own guns, I'm a Democrat" In this very Red state, this is very progressive. So, I'm not sure the republicons have the last say on those issues.
