What happens if one of the presidential candidates doesn't make it to the election?

What happens if one of the presidential candidates doesn't make it to the election?
If McCain doesn't make it, will the nominee be Palin, Mittens, Huckabee, or someone else?

Similarly, if Obama didn't make it, would the nominee be Hillary, Biden, or someone else?

And what would the process be for deciding?

Anyone have an idea? :shrug:

Senator Larry Craig is in charge of keeping all of the phone numbers current on that list.
