Charlie Black: Palin will learn national security at the foot of the master
No, seriously, stop laughing, he said that.

Mr. McCain’s advisers said Friday that Mr. McCain was well aware that Ms. Palin would be criticized for her lack of foreign policy experience, but that he viewed her as exceptionally talented and intelligent and that he felt she would be able to be educated quickly.

“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black, one of Mr. McCain’s top advisers, making light of concerns about Mr. McCain’s health, which Mr. McCain’s doctors reported as excellent in May.

The cynicism of McCain's advisors is just astounding. McCain could die tomorrow. Or he could live 20 more years. But why take chances unnecessarily? It is downright irresponsible to pick someone for VP with so little gravitas in ANY national or interntional issues. Oh yes, she knows a little about oil - not energy, mind you, just oil. Sheesh!

26. But to be serious I think this betrays McCains plan to pledge to serve one term
Perhaps they know that McCain may not have the physical or perhaps mental acuity to be serving while eighty, so he makes a "self-less" gesture to run for only one term. Palin may not have the "experience" now, but if they can just use McCain to carry her up, and learn at the foot of the master, but after the first term he'll replace him as a younger, more "conservative" version of McCain, with foreign experience knowledge. In their minds a formidable match up for Hillary if she runs in 2012, or anyone else.

Wow...just wow....amazing actually. They all admit that if McCain croaks in February 2009, we're all shit out of luck...
