Why Has Bush Gone Negative?: It's all about the turnout
The * nastiness will continue because converntional wisdom says that negative campaign ads drive down turnout. That favors Repugs in a dramatic way.

Kerry/Edwards will have to carefully navigate this quicksand.

The R's win if they keep 'the people' away from the polls.

1. That's good
I hope all the Repugs stay home, because Dems are registering to vote in record numbers.

2. The bush campaign ALWAYS goes negative
It went negative on Ann Richards.

It went negative on John McCain.

It went negative on Al Gore.

It's going negative on John Kerry.

Why? Because it works. bush himself is such a pathetic shitty little toadstool that the only way he can win these elections is by bringing his opponents down to his level and beating them with experience.

3. the Resident bush* supporter (RbS) at work
said to me, yesterday, that Kerry isn't talking about issues and is hiding behind negative ads in order to avoid talking about issues

me: Excuse me? Kerry? sounds more like you are talking about bush*

I pointed out that Kerry has been talking about the issues, that his campaign commrcials are all about the issues. Then I asked him to describe ONE bush* commercial that talks about the issues or a bush* commercial that spotlights an accomplishment

the RBS looked like a fish out of water with his mouth gapeing, lips flapping but nothing coming out

best he could come up with was "bush supports the troops"

I started to tick off a list of Veteran programs/services that bush* has cut and asked him if this looked like bush* really supported the troops. The with a big sigh I said "Look, there is what bush* says then there is what bush* does - if you want a complete list of his flip-flops I'll print it out for you."

no answer

4. It has always worked for him, look to the past
There was the gov race in tx agianst Ann Richards
Then the 2000 primary agains McCain
2002 Senate race in Georgia against Max Cleland.

When the media wakes up and stops supporting his games then he will have to stop the negative campaign.
I don't think the bush regiem knows anything else, and they have no record to run on.

6. The pugs go negative because hate of the other sells
Just look what it did for Ray-gun (welfare queen) and shrubby's daddy (Willie Horton). It is far easier to appeal to our more base emotions than to reason.
