WTF??? A guy from the Chicago Sun-Times is on Scarborough's show

making a claim that John Kerry has lied about his Silver Star with Combat V. He looked up Kerry's DD-214 and asked the Dept. of Navy about it. They said (according to this Thomas Lipscomb) that the USN has never issued a Silver Star with Combat V. He claims Admiral Boorda killed himself after being outed for claiming he rec'd a Bronze Star with Combat V, which also has never been issued.

Anybody know about this?

Walt Starr, help!

2. The 'Chicago Tribune' and 'Chicago Sun-Times' BOTH Endorsed Bush in 2000
So I hope no one from the outside thinks either is a democratic/liberal leaning paper.

but the idea that Kerry could have been lying all these years about a major military award is not credible. Can you imagine how many times he's been vetted and investigated over the years? Of course, scarface won't call him on it.

5. this was covered in an earlier thread today so its the only way i know
anything about it but it is 100% hooey

the navy made a clerical error placing a "v" in kerrys silver star citation. by its very nature the silver star is already for valor so there isnt any v attached to a ss

but the navy made that mistake way back and have just now changed it, removing the v.

there is absolutely nothing at all to this story and just one more example of freepers gone wild

10. Can you imagine....

if scarface and others in the media used half of the energy they are now using to bring Kerry down on lies and used it to question the administration on it claims about Saddam being an immediate threat before the Iraq war? 1000 soldiers would now be alive.

13. The "reporter" admitted it could be a clerical error.

Probably knew it was. Scared me, though. Thanks!

7. No need for a Silver Star with V device
Silver Star can't be won without valor. V device is redundant.

8. Then what the HELL are they pinning on him here?
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 09:41 PM by A_Possum

Idiots. Are they trying to claim he never got the Silver Star at all?

Gee, what was the ceremony for then?

ON EDIT: Whoops, in this pic he's getting the bronze star (with V for combat valor) but nevertheless, the same guy, Admiral Zumwalt, pinned on Kerry's Silver Star, and had originally put him in for the Navy Cross instead.

I begin to think the whole point here is just to throw a lot bones for freepers to gnash and chew. It's about as silly to claim Kerry "made up" getting the medal as it is to claim aliens are about to land in Iraq.

9. Complete propagandist

Scarborough is doing his damndest to keep these flames burning. He typically has a topic where he supports one side of the issue and he brings in some guest to promote that side. It's usually just Joe and some other asshol spouting off. No sense of fairness or objectivity. I will NOT ever watch him again and have made my opinion clear to MSNBC.

18. The PLOT Thickens. . .

Thanks for the link, The Nation.

He also complains that Kerry hasn't released all his records. Are these folks just an echo chamber?

"What could that more than 100 pages contain? Questions have been raised about President Bush's drill attendance in the reserves, but Bush received his honorable discharge on schedule. Kerry, who should have been discharged from the Navy about the same time -- July 1, 1972 -- wasn't given the discharge he has on his campaign Web site until July 13, 1978. What delayed the discharge for six years? This raises serious questions about Kerry's performance while in the reserves that are far more potentially damaging than those raised against Bush."

YEAH, RIGHT!

The guy who wrote this & appeared on Scarborough, Thomas Lipscomb, is not a reporter for the Sun-Times. Here's what it says under the article:

Thomas Lipscomb is chairman of the Center for the Digital Future in New York.

We really, really, really need to take these bastards down. Show them a Digital Future. A Middle Digital Future. Mumble, mumble.
