Former Bush Voters Star in New MoveOn Ad Campaign during RNC!

Contact: Trevor FitzGibbon, Kawana Lloyd or Jessica Smith, 202-822-5200, all for MoveOn PAC

WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- MoveOn PAC will air five new ads produced by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Errol Morris during the Republican convention starting Tuesday on cable and network affiliates in nine states- Florida, Nevada, Iowa, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and West Virginia. All five pre-tested spots -- "Reckless," "Overseas," "What About America," "Where Are They," and "Fishing" -- will also run on Fox News in rotation starting Monday across the nation.

The thirty-second spots feature real people, not actors, who voted for George W. Bush in 2000, but who have been disappointed by the President's performance in office and plan to vote for John Kerry in the 2004 November election.

Several additional "Real People" ads produced by Morris will be included in a full-page ad in the New York Times on Monday.

One ad features former U.S. Marine Sergeant Lee Buttrill who explains, "We were given these ideas that there were weapons of mass destruction...It was just a lie. That wasn't a proper use of American troops. It wasn't a proper use of my life, or my friends' lives, or the marines who I've seen die around me."

Other ads feature a commercial fisherman -- and life-long Republican -- speaking of the illness and pollution caused by environmental deregulation under Bush. Another stars a woman whose husband lost his job because of overseas outsourcing.

To view the ads, visit: http://www.moveonpac.org/morris/.

11. It's brilliant

Showing them on FOX is a brilliant idea. Believe it or not, there are indeed some people who watch FOX and think it's the real news.

Sad I know, but it's true. :wow:

The ads are just awesome.

5. Skinner (and others), Here's how they came to be...
Snip:

Errol Morris, whose inventive and stylized documentaries include “The Thin Blue Line,” “Mr. Death,” and an Oscar-winning portrait of Robert McNamara, “The Fog of War,” is also a prodigious director of TV commercials—the ultimate message movies. It’s a lucrative sideline in which he takes considerable pleasure. He’s made successful advertisements for such brands as Miller High Life, Adidas, and Volkswagen, although some of his favorite spots—one for Quaker Oats, for example, which shows an orangutan spooning porridge into his mouth, then setting aside the utensil and blissfully plunging his face into the breakfast bowl—have never been broadcast. A few years ago, Morris directed Apple’s enormously popular “Switch” campaign, which consisted of vignettes about real people who had abandoned PCs for Macs. And, while he has never before been involved in electoral politics, this year Morris decided to make a series of documentary political ads featuring Republican switchers, people who voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and will vote for John Kerry this time around.

Whole, great article here:

3. Another example of great minds thinking alike
While voting for the spots, I found myself wishing that there could be more than one winner, because they worked so well as a campaign. WHOO HOO!

4. Wow!
:wow:

I especially like the ones that say they are republicans, then "I'm voting for John Kerry."

Huge impact.

10. Send in the Muslims
Saffuri also brought to the GOP's attention the most important issue for the Muslim community--the misuse of "secret evidence" in immigration cases, allowed under a 1996 law. One Muslim man was held in prison for three years based on secret evidence that turned out to be a claim by his former wife (with whom he was in a custody battle) that he planned to kill Janet Reno. The wife had pulled a similar stunt on a previous husband.
When George W. Bush condemned the use of secret evidence in his second nationally televised debate with Al Gore, national Muslim groups decided to endorse Bush. Eight national Muslim groups did so on October 23rd. Eighty-five percent of Muslim voters, in a poll commissioned by Muslim leaders, reported that they were aware of the leadership's endorsement.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear,
I thought that you'd want what I want,
Sorry my dear.
But where are the Muslims?
Send in the Muslims.
Don't bother, they're here.

12. KICK

:kick:

Here's why I contributed to this campaign.

These are honest, effective ads. THESE are the kinds of things we need to do. Not go negative as some suggest.

Please watch and consider it.

13. Moveon needs to denounce the Vets for Bush by having these Vets
state right off the bat, that they are from the Iraqi current war and they are NOT being paid to back Bush. That statement does MANY things, one, it stops any Vets who back Bush from retaliating and it comes from the people who are fighting in Bush's Oil war, and want to get the truth out. MoveOn needs to get VERY tough right now and take it all the way, if they want to win this game they have to be playing the same sport. Rove and his lie machines are hard at work making shit up and then having Kerry discredit it, we need to get the edge and go on OFFENSE!
