A draft McCain during convention.......
we all have discussed this before, but this is the first time I've seen it written down. I know, I know, it's just gossip from "Page Six" from the NY Post. *gag* *choke* *gag*

DREAM TEAM

IT'S surely a case of wishful thinking on their part, but some Republicans are spreading the rumor that the GOP's national convention will actually have some excitement when Dick Cheney (above) announces he's stepping down as vice president because of his health. This far-fetched scenario would supposedly lead to a dramatic floor fight orchestrated for the nation's prime-time TV audience and a "Draft McCain" movement to end with John McCain, a bigger war hero than John Kerry (and very popular with swing voters), as President Bush's running mate.

2. And he has said...
that he will not be accepting a VP nod from anybody. This will either force the GOP to nominate Zell Miller, or have McCain's words thrown in his face.

4. I hope it happens, here's why...
That'll make TWO senior officials who have not taken sufficiently strong positions against the SBLs.

MCain's spoken out against them, but still stands by his man.

What'll he say, then? They'll throw his words right back at him.

It's transparent as hell. No one will fall for it.

6. Me too. Please, please, please do this! Have the floor fight, make
the headlines, pump up your lead, steal Kerry's thunder, nominate John McCain and then choke on it when McCain steps to the mic and says, "Ain gonna dew it, Bitches!"

5. They won't do it McCain doesn't fit the new Repub mold
Sure the Repubs that we're going to see speaking overall at the convention are the front for the convention but the decision making Republicans who run things behind the curtains would never stand for someone like McCain because of his "questionable beliefs"

10. Then again, this would be awesome!!! Woo!!!

Can you imagine how it would look with a VP fight on the floor, protesters outside, McCain refusing to have a change in his life thrust on him by the delegates, and a Democrat as the keynote speaker (we know he isn't, but hey..)

I hope there's a realignment when we win. That will make things more interesting.

11. McCain is a steer, not a bull...

If, after being smeared as nastily as Bush smeared him in 2000, McCain is still willing to publicly endorse Smirk, then he doesn't have nearly as much character as I once credited him with.

BTW, I just saw a repeat of a recent clip showing McCain on stage with Bush. Bush was showing his solidarity with McCain by hugging him and raising arm s with him. But then -- just before Smirk sent McCain back to his place in the peanut gallery, Bush KISSED HIM ON THE FOREHEAD!!! I swear: Smirk kissed McCain on top of his head just as if he were a three-year-old child headed off to bed. Which, having served his purpose, he was.

It was the most condescending thing I've seen since the photo of Bush rubbing a black guy's head ... or the photo of Bush wiping his glasses on Letterman's assistant's skirt.

Both of those photos, by the way, would be part of the Kerry campaign -- if the Kerry campaign wasn't itself a steer instead of a bull.
