Where is Bill Clinton?
This is not a literal question - I know he's in Ireland humping his book - but more of a desperate plea. KERRY NEEDS BILL CLINTON out there helping him defeat Bush! After that great speech the Big Dog gave in Boston, does anyone doubt that he could really help Kerry? I know Clinton wants and needs to sell his book, but come on, what's really more important?

This is starting to remind me of 1988, where once Bush 41 caught and then even passed Dukakis, he never had a real chance after that. If Bush 43 starts to get an air of inevitability around him, it's going to be hard for Kerry to overcome that.

We need all the big guns on board and blazing away, and that includes Bill Clinton. For the good of the country and of the world, he should pack up the traveling medicine show and start pitching for Kerry.

3. He was in NM yesterday on the heels of Bush's visit

You probably didn't see it on TV though (*big surprise*).

http://www.borderlandnews.com/stories/borderland/20040827-161264.shtml

MESILLA -- Democratic vice-presidential candidate John Edwards vigorously attacked President Bush's record Thursday, hours after the president had made his own pitch to Southern New Mexico voters.

The North Carolina senator took Bush to task on issues including character and health care and then said to boisterous cheers that he and Sen. John Kerry were the ones fit to lead the Southwest and the nation into the future.

Apparently he's in Colorado today:

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/kerry/articles/2004/08/27/edwards_has_harsh_words_for_bush_cheney/

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards took President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to task Thursday on gay marriage, poverty, and other issues, using unusually harsh words at a forum that included undecided voters. Edwards, responding to a question about the Democratic ticket's stance on civil unions, referenced Cheney's recent remarks that were supportive of gay rights.

The North Carolina senator noted that "the vice president disagrees with the president on this." Referring to Cheney, Edwards said sarcastically: "Somebody forgot to tell him what he was supposed to say I guess."

8. Local coverage on TV was good...the clips showed him referring
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 01:01 PM by Gloria
to Bush's earlier appearance here in town (Las Cruces)...how Bush didn't mention the new loss of insurance numbers. (This is El Paso local) Crowd shots very good.

Even though Bush got the headlines here in the Repug paper, they did print stories about the protests outside AND the Edwards appearance. And on the editorial page, a huge story on the hypocrisy of chickenhawks.

Paper is definitely Repug, but obviously wary of going way over to the right because they're afraid of losing advertisers...So, they're walking a fine line right now....

It was great that the campaign acted so agiley to get Edwards in here the same day as Bush. In fact, he came into town the night before so he didn't get screwed by airspace and landing time restrictions imposed by the FAA when Bush travels. So, while Bush got a big headling about how "I want your vote" we were in there also taking up space and getting counter-press!!

PS--Clinton was also in India, prior to Ireland.....

And this ain't 88! Clinton is good, Kerry is better. Remember where Kerry was before Iowa? Then out of nowhere, Kazoooom! To the top. Have faith. The people don't get fooled again.

6. He'll be in Pittsburgh Monday for a booksigning at the B&N
in the Waterfront. He will get press from the local media (they're already talking about it), which is why I chose to answer your question literally.

14. I suppose he'll get local press...
...and can use it on Kerry's behalf, but I'm thinking of him actually out on the campaign trail. You couldn't send him everywhere, but there are plenty of places where he could really help make the case for Kerry and against Dubya, point out the rise in income inequality without sounding like a "class warrior," etc.

16. Strange
I think it is strange that Clinton is not going to be in NYC for the convention next week. In fact, my understanding is that he'll still be out of the country.

He's still trying to sell books, he loves attention and he would take some of the spotlight away from the Republicans. Clinton shouldn't be accused of taking publicity from Kerry because he's taking the Republicans to task. If there was any logical time for him to be in NYC, next week would be the week.

As an ex-prez, he still receives intelligence reports and wasn't he one of the few on the left that said raising the terror alert level in early August wasn't done for political reasons?

Does Clinton strongly suspect terrorists are likely to be a player in NYC next week?

Just a thought...

18. Here is what I think
He thinks it stupid that they are going down the nam path when it is the economy stupid that won against bush with him. Look at this board. I see little on the economy and everyone talking about something 40 years ago that does not help either one of them to be elected. I seems to be really hurting Kerry. Drop it and say let us focus on the economy.

20. Clinton needs to break with Dole
how can Clinton keep praising Dole for his bipartisanship and cooperation, when Dole just joined in the ugliest smear in memory?
