The Best Speech You Didn’t Hear: John Kerry

The Best Speech You Didn’t Hear: John Kerry

Last night was far and away the best night of the convention, with some gloves finally being laid on John McCain (for all the complaining - some of it legit - compare the 2008 convention to 2004, MUCH tougher on the opponent). But in the purest political sense, I think the best speech of the night was given by…wait for it…John Kerry?!?

Yup, Kerry was concise and devastating, and particularly on matters of national security. That’s the good news.

The bad news? Except for PBS and C-SPAN, NOT ONE NETWORK COVERED THIS SPEECH! And then their pundits have the gall to tell us that no one attacked McCain. If this blog, and others like it, can serve any favorable purpose, it would be to spread this video far and wide. I strongly encourage you to share it with your friends:

1. I heard it and loved it- Cspan rules. The M$M are no longer covering real news
They are simply stages for pundits to sit and yell their pov at others.

4. I know. I moved to C-span.
Do they really think we need to hear them blathering on, instead of hearing from our last nominee?

9. I heard it and was so excited about it!
I know some people who love John Kerry and are going to get a strong dose of why the corporatemediaWhore$ are for the gopundits if they didn't hear it on C-Span last night. I'll be talking to them soon.

And, everyone tell their friends about C-Span, too..Jonathan Alter recommended to everyone watching if they didn't want to get interrupted by the commentators..nevermind not even showing it 'cause they're scared shitless :scared: :scared: :scared:

11. CSPAN and PBS both aired it LIVE
Tune out of Network coverage.

CSPAN has no commentators and PBS only minimal and they are careful not to step on speeches

21. He is one of the very few Democrats who has learned the lesson to fight fire with fire
Obama's strategy is to be ultra-hip and therefore ultra-vague. If he is going to stick to that game plan, he is going to need Biden, Kerry, and Clark to be out there taking no prisoners.

While the rest of them are pussying-out because they are afraid of the POW issue, Clark and Kerry have the biography to take that on and break through that first line of defense. It is just like 911. Democrats were pussies for 4 years. But once somebody broke came up with the courage to call out Bush on that, all hell broke loose for Bush

We have to do the same thing with McCain. We have to teach all the commentators to set that aside. Whenever he brings up the POW thing, the correct response is, "We all have the greatest sympathy for Senator McCain's years as a POW and we honor his service. But that's not what we were talking about. Can we get back to the issue at hand, which has nothing to do with POW camps?"

People need to take that path every single day on every single issue. And if we can't engage him face to face, it can still work indirectly, with "John McCain was asked about {{health care for children}} yesterday. Rather than answer the question, he talked about his days 40 years ago as a POW. We all have the greatest sympathy ... but can we get back to the issue of heath care for our children?"

Any Democrat with a microphone needs to memorize that formula. Practice it in front of a mirror. Go with it and keep using it. Eventually the talking heads will start doing it too.

18. Caught it on PBS - he was terrific.
Whenever the talking heads started spouting on MSNBC, I'd pop over to PBS to hear the REAL news.

Thanks, Senator Kerry!!

20. I'll admit I didn't hear it
With all the Clinton ego bullshit, I haven't watched 5 minutes of the whole damn convention. I have watched a few clips and caught a few headlines.

And I am a person who usually sucks up all the convention coverage I can get.

I guess the good news is that because most people have not heard that speech, there will be some great opportunities for Kerry to make high impact much closer to Election Day, after the Clintons are safely on some deserted island, I hope.
