Bush called SB ads "unamerican" and "unpatriotic"?
I missed this and I watched his press availability live, did anyone else see it?

On the WH website it has this:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040823-4.html

Q Some of your supporters are refighting the Vietnam War with their comments about Kerry's war record. Do you think that these attacks of this nature are unpatriotic, un-American, seeing as we're sending young people to war at this time?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, I think we ought to be debating who best to be leading this country in the war against terror. And that's what I'll continue to try to convince the American people of, is that I'm the right person to continue to lead the country in the war on terror. I think we ought to be looking forward, not backward. And that's the kind of campaign I'll continue to run.

If he really did say this - on 8/23 - why wasn't this the lead in any news reports I saw (this is not a facetious question). I don't believe he said the word "yes" at the beginning of his response, I thought I watched it very closely.

The reason I ask is that there is a letter in my local paper from Kerry's sister and the eds. added this little comment at the end.

1. ummm...it was on the cable news
that he completely denounced the ads...they tried to make everyone think he denounced these ads but he is hiding from that because he is behind them..he wanted to get rid of ALL 527's not just the swift boat one...so it was kinda skirting around what the reporter had asked him...

hope its clear but it was all over the news...

4. That wasn't what I meant. I didn't see anything that said that
Bush Called Attacks on Kerry's Military Service Unpatriotic and UnAmerican.

It's possible I missed it.

3. I did see it. If there was ever a time to take a clip of shrub for an ad
this could be the right one! I can see it now. "George Bush says he supports our military, but at a meeting with the Press, he says (cut to a clip of the question & YES response!)

Gotta love these opportunities, don't ya?

part of his response.

On edit - I just watched the clip and he did say "yeah" at the beginning.

Nevermind.

6. His "yes" was to "refighting the Vietnam war", I think
I think Bush was saying yes, meaning he agreed that people were trying to refight the Vietnam war and that everyone should kowtow to his accomplishments in the war on terror. I suspect he heard the first part of the question and jumped to his rehearsed talking point.

Note that it should be the "war against terrorists". He is not conducting a war on terror, he is using terror for political purposes.
