How are the Swift Boat Ads going to hurt Bush? (Read This)
From what I've seen Kerry has been the one hurt by these ads. Everyone seems more content with saying that this will eventually hurt Bush even though that doesn't seem to be the case. I' have been saying for MONTHS now that we need to concentrate on what's going on with the economy and health care rather than spending our time worrying about the SB ads. Kerry's numbers are getting worse, and wed should be worried about that. No one cares where Bush was during Vietnam and we should stop worrying about it. Everyone knows that those people who joined the N.G. during Vietnam were just trying to get out of going to the war. We need to stop this smear campaign and move on rather than stay in the muddy waters that we are in. Once again this election will be "it's the economy, stupid." But if we sit here and do nothing except think that talking about Bush's N.G. service will actually help Kerry than we are fools. You can choose to look at the polls and do something or look at the polls and talk about Bush's N.G. service. In the end if we choose the later of the two than it will be four more years of Bush.

1. They won't. At best they just won't help him.
Did the Horton ads hurt?

3. The one thing to bring up is it's Republicans who are smearing Vets
Keep putting the slime on the Republicans. They are the ones who are smearing Vets not just Kerry but all Vets. Because of these smears all those who have fought and received any accommodations are now suspect

7. You don't think every time one of us calls THEM a "liar"
they can't claim a "smear" as well?

This is ugly all around. It's really brought a lot of the ugliness of Vietnam home to me. I was too young to know what was going on.

(already posted this in another thread)

I don't think that BC04 realized that by allowing these asshats to go public with their smears, they have dishonored a lot more Vets than just Kerry.

Last night, my VERY Republican and strongly pro-military mom, a former counselor at the VVCenters and one-time CREEP, came to visit. Since she was spending the night, we were just kicking back in the living room, BS'ing and watching TV. Ended up with Norville's show on, featuring Thurlow and one of the other SwiftLiars. Like most folks, she (my mom) was aware of the controversy, but hadn't actually seen these guys speaking. Now, to be fair, she had already acknowledged that (for the first time) she'll be voting D for the Top Spot in November, but her anger and contempt for the SwiftLiars was palpable... and highly verbal... when she saw 'em in action.

We've all read plenty of similar anecdotes- this is already hurting Bush.

ON EDIT: One of Nostamj's cartoons illustrates this perfectly- look closely at the soldier:

5. Vietnam veterans vote. That's how.
And Bush does not seem to realize how pissed off he has got them.
Sorry, but the pandora's box is open. Good luck trying to shut it.

6. For the time being, the polls may be indicating an up and
down pattern. The current polls are reflecting the initial media blitz where the SW Liars for bush were practically on 24/7 and every word falling out of their mouth was treated like gospel.

While the issue is still getting more air time than I like, at least now they are being debunked on some shows. More Veterans are coming out supporting Kerry and calling the liars.....well, liars.

Part of the repug strategy in this smear was to get a lot of attention against Kerry going into the convention. The plan is to get their poll numbers up so that the dems will throw up their hands and say,

Oh NO, we are doomed.

We have to trust Kerry on this one. The way I see it, he is as ruthless as Rove and Bush combined. He is smarter and knows what he is doing. We should follow his lead. He will certainly get the message back on track.

8. Bush is going to continue running additional Swift Boat ads.
There will be a point where more and more voters become disgusted with him. Then Bush will stop but it will be too late. After he stops the ads people will still refer to them every time Bush does something else that pisses them off.

10. it's already hurting bush -- makes him look weak and cowardly
plus it's going to make it hard for the republicans to push their message during the convention.

it's stupid to think that the Kerry camp (and the people here, for that matter) are ignoring the real issues
