43. If, by that, you mean designed with the assistance of the Secret Service, I agree.
You'd better believe that EVERY aspect of the layout and the "set" incorporates security concerns. Not only will various props contain bulletproof materials, we'll see (or won't see) accommodations for concealed snipers, crowd surveillance, and evacuation routes.

IT NEVER GOD DARNED ENDS ...

Also why midfield and not in one of the end zones? I thought the place was sold out?

Anyway I think the Hitler comparisons are laughable but it just seems so out of place there. Definately not the way I would have gone.

Meh. Maybe when I see it lit up in all it's glory I'll change my mind. Plus I think it's cool that they'll have fireworks at the end.

That's what I thin about it.

Looks like the side pieces will have two columns each framing a video screen.

The center is only a framework and will have something over it, like curtains, flags, maybe video screens.

So total, there will be four columns, two on each side piece.

20. horrid. the STADIUM is a monumental, historic stage set.
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 02:39 PM by npincus
The rubber Acropolis is a distraction, and already the butt of GOP ridicule.

BAD f*cking idea. The GOP is already recycling their shitty Obama-messiah ads which the MSM will play ad-nauseum. How f*cking stupid to shoot ourselves in the foot needlessly. Haven't we learned anything? We know how those shits operate, and succeed doing so. The best guy doesn't always win. F*cking naive.

WHoever thought of that is probably the genius that engineered the faux-pesidential seal embarrasment.

Glad you asked? I hope it falls down tonight.

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5he-dnQkMc5R-FaZ1v6t_VsNuf0AQ

Pictures and an aerial film footage of the set being constructed for the speech show a curved, backdrop with creamy, gray column-like structures, which could suggest a classical structure, like a Greek or Roman temple.

The backdrop may also be intended to evoke the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, where civil rights icon Martin Luther King gave his soaring "I have a Dream Speech" exactly 45 years to the day before Obama's keynote address.

As anticipation for Obama's address built, Republicans sent out an edition of their "Audacity Watch" email newsletter which they use to point out perceived examples of hubris by the Obama campaign, titled "The Temple of Obama."

McCain also featured the structure on a blog on his website.

The McCain campaign has issued a flurry of campaign commercials mercilessly ribbing the Democratic candidate over his elevated rhetorical style, and mocked Obama over a White House-style lecturn he once used.

In one ad, titled "The One" Obama is depicted as a quasi-religious figure who "anointed" himself to lead the world.

"Can you see the light?" the hard-hitting negative ad asked, following up on a McCain theme that the Illinois Democrat is arrogant, transfixed by his own celebrity and not yet ready to lead.

"It shall be known, that in 2008, the world will be blessed," said the narrator of the minute-long web video sent to McCain supporters in a fundraising appeal.

"They will call him, 'The One,'" the advertisement said, using a sarcastic tone and stark religious imagery.

This election is not the same.

Kerry's staff, headed by the incompetent Bob Schrum, was wimpy and weak..... and he had no ground game and was at a financial disadvantage.

Bush had 55% approval rating at the time. He's 30% now.

No two elections are the same.

We cannot make stupid choices and assume we'll coast to the finish line... that attitude didn't get the anointed HRC very far. All of the mornonic battering IS having an effect. Admit it or not.

No I DO NOT fear the GOP and their tactics; I LOATHE them. I am twisted with hatred, if you must know the truth. I think we need to be very smart (we are) and match their f*cking filth, give it to them TWICE as hard (we aren't). Whatever it takes to beat those f*ckers.

Sorry, we can debate until the sun sets tonight. I don't like the stage set, we don't need it, and it opens up ANOTHER avenue for those bastards.

I got a pain in my gut when I saw it this morning. A visceral response. Call it a reflex.

I work in the design/architecture field, am a person with a point of view when it comes to design/art/architecture. From my point of view, it's a gratuitous appendage that looks silly, doesn't work and is a visual distraction. The STADIUM filled with 70,000 screaming admirerers is a unique historic backdrop for the event. It works without any bells, whistles or fiberglass columns.

MY opinion and I'm sticking to it. Good luck with your testosterone...remember, the surge is working! :)

Respectfully, I have a long history of participation on the site, so YOU (or "we-all") do not know what "motivates" me. If you have lived through at least the 2004 election cycle, you can see how the GOP turns shit into treasure. I am the realist here.

This additive structure is entirely gratuitous, a distraction, the fact that it's been the subject of so much discussion/debate on the internet and has spawned what is only the beginning of a media feeding frenzy. Are YOU that naive?

This is purely self-inflicted. The stadium itself is a magnificent, historic backdrop for what is to be an unprecedented nomination ceremony. The "stage set" is artifical and looks silly.

My opinion. You need to treat others here who disagree with you with a little more civility.

74. Invesco Field has NO ambience. This design probably also gives

76. Interesting thought about the Secret Service. I know some people

75. I wish it was enclosed in bulletproof glass...
