1st (media covered) NYC Protest - Right place, wrong image
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 06:51 AM by bigskydem
What is a more powerful image? 15 naked, painted bodies . . .holding hands to stop traffic. Or, 100,000 men, women, children, clerks, doctors, janitors, stockbrokers, teachers, firemen, pilots, managers, retail sales people, etc , , , peacefully sitting down in times square.

We are everywhere, some not as politically active as others, but we represent America too.

Show up dressed for work, sit down and stay put for days (if you can afford the time off!!!)

1. 15 people is a bold protest, because they are easy to arrest unlike
100,000 people.

2. But I seriously doubt anyone's minds were changed.
Think about it. If they were changed, they were changed for the negative.

That protest was "look at ME and my problem."

The protest bigskydem describes is "We are more like you than you know, and we are ALL hurting. We identify with you, and maybe you can identify with us."

Right now, like it or not, this election is all about the swing voters.

3. there is room for all types of protest .
I am sure many of them don't give a rats ass about swing voters or Kerry. They aren't DEMS. Most think DEMS are part of the problem and they aren't wrong in most cases.

4. Yup, this doesn't bode well. Too many people who don't
understand, or WANT to understand, what protest is.

Just as Gore Vidal predicted, they're playing right into Rove's hands, and may very well lose the election for us.

I hope it makes them pleased with themselves.
