MSM (Joe S) mocking Invesco stage set design (Roman columns)
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 08:40 AM by npincus
"grandiose", "unfortunate choice for a candidate accused of grandiosity"....

True he's an asshole, but... Roman columns?

1. I have to say that I agree with Joe...
It's a PR thing. I do think that Roman columns are a bit much.

The media and Republicans are trying to paint Obama as an elitist, arugula-loving
guy who thinks he's hot shit.

I'm sure this was not the intention, but the Roman columns sorta reinforces all
of that stuff.

With that said, Joe is a piece of shit.

With that said, we shouldn't be giving the pieces of shit out there, more fodder
for their asshat commentaries.

Dump the Roman columns.

19. The answer is somewhere between...
tarp/tired and Roman columns.

Flags, and red/white/blue stuff--is Presidential.

Columns evoke grandness on an epic--almost mythical--scale.

we're going to shred McCain's elitism (so many houses he doesn't know how many) and we introduce our candidate in a faux coliseum? Snarky "rubber tires" comment noted. Sorry for wanting to win. We know what the Repubs are going to do with this.

17. It plays into a PR weakness...
...that the Republicans are attempting to exploiting with Obama--all of the "elitist" "egomaniac" nonsense.

It would be similar to McCain speaking in front of gilded, gold columns while wearing
a top hat and a tuxedo as he motors around the stage in a diamond-encrusted Rascal.

Let's not give the psychopaths more fodder for their disinformation-hate campaign.

30. Talking about Soldier's Field in Chicago
These columns are not normally part of Invesco. The comment was about Soldier's Field in Chicago. They are being built for the speech backdrop. What are the Obama people thinking? Take Obama's biggest and most talked about negative and make it even worse. Of course the backdrop should be all patriotism, flags, r/w/blue, etc. Why do we give the Repugs and media even more to criticize?

I've got no problems with the columns. How do columns = elitism? Because Joey Scarballs and his repug friends say so? Check out Washington DC, there's columns all over the place and as you just mentioned, Soldier Field, which was dedicated to fallen soldiers.

A greek theater stage set in a football stadium is absurd. All he needs is a stage, and a jumbo-tron or 2.

Maybe it'll turn out great, warm, and intimate. But I don't see how this is going to help us in any way, it's only going to give the GOP plenty of ammo to use in their attack ads.

A little nervous but we'll see how it turns out.
