MODO senses "High Anxiety in the Mile High City" despite Hillary's great speech
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 05:06 AM by Sensitivity
She fails to give Hillary the credit for unifying the Convention. Her cynical spin is really annoying, but we Dems desperately need cynics to remind us that Obama WINNING this fight is the PRIZE --- and a lot of fantastic stuff that does not build-up Barack, tear down his opponent, or ensure his victory, is just a waste of energy and media cycles.

High Anxiety in the Mile High City

By MAUREEN DOWD
Published: August 26, 2008

....

But this Democratic convention has a vibe so weird and jittery, so at odds with the early thrilling, fairy dust feel of the Obama revolution, that I had to consult Mike Murphy, the peppery Republican strategist and former McCain guru.

“What is that feeling in the air?” I asked him.

“Submerged hate,” he promptly replied.

There were a lot of bitter Clinton associates, fund-raisers and supporters wandering the halls, spewing vindictiveness, complaining of slights, scheming about Hillary’s roll call and plotting trouble, with some in the Clinton coterie dissing Obama by planning early departures, before the nominee even speaks.

.....

Hillary also said she was happy about the choice of Joe Biden because he added “intensity” to the ticket. Ouch.

She added insult to injury by coming out Tuesday night looking great in a blazing orange pantsuit and teaching the precocious pup Obama something about intensity and message. She thanked her “sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits,” and slyly noted that Obama would enact her health care plan rather than his.

She offered the electrifying fight that the limpid Obama has not — setting off paranoia among some Democrats that they had chosen the wrong nominee or that Obama had chosen the wrong running mate.

. . . .

1. "paranoia among some democrats that they had chosen the wrong
nominee". WTF?

I supported Hillary in thr primaries, but this pisses me off.

It is the second time since her speech that I have heard this. Someone on MSNBC asked if there was buyers remorse with the choice of Obama.

it is just another way to keep us divided. The speech was better than they thought, was not selfish, was unifying and they hate it.

4. The GOP Corporate Media is going to keep
the myth going that the Democratic Party is divided and Obama is a weak candidate. The GOP wanted Hillary, because that would energize their base like their candidate can't. They didn't get Hillary. Then they pushed her for VP. Obama chose Biden. So now they are going to deliberately stoke the fires of division until November.

10. They have very effectively hijacked the convention ...
are there Hill supporters skulking around - yes. Are the tens, hundreds of thousand other Ds STARVING to get Barrack Obama elected - YES.

But, they have effectively portrayed this convention as some sort of huge psychdrama, using 4 out of every 5 "pundits" or elected officials they interview as republican whores. Then, will follow up next week by totally shutting Ds out and raving about whoever the McCain VP pick is and saying how united the republican party is - you won't hear the name Ron Paul the entire week.

3. This reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Bart was a genius
at the end of the episode, Homer's chasing Bart and Marge asks Lisa, "what happened?"

and Lisa says, "Bart's stupid again."

Modo is stupid again. Hope you enjoyed the interlude. :eyes:

24. Wow. Have I ever posted Dawd before in my life? NO. I just noticed her cynical eye as instructive at
this time when we may get over-elated with a fantastic convention, while not keeping our eye on the prize -- Hearts, minds and votes moving to Barack.

8. The media will not allow this fabricated rift go away
They are going to do everything they can to destroy both Clinton's and Obama's future in politics. They want to make them the ones responsible for losing this election.
So now the story is the paranoia that the wrong candidate is on the ballot.
Several talking heads had this as their talking point immediately following Hillary's speech last night with reference to Ford and Reagan in '76. I knew the minute they brought out those two worm baits where they were headed.

The media loves to keep the Democrats fighting among themselves.

11. WTF?
I was kinda annoyed to hear on CSpan a Hillary supporter gush about Obama's idea about the green-collar jobs like it was all Hillary's idea in the first place and now this. Please quit crediting Hillary with every great idea under the sun-- Obama's not some fucking "precocious pup" that dethroned the queen. He's the fucking PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE. Quit with that bullshit.

always has, always will. Modo is a shill for the Republican underground, you better believe it. ANY way she can dump on her she will, even to blaming stupidity of individual people on her. If she could, she would put the Clinton's in public stockades and pay people to throw garbage on them, the write a story about what big polluter's the Clinton's are.

She......is.......a.......tool

16. "Limpid:?" She said "limpid?"
"Limpid:" (of language) transparently clear; easily understandable; "writes in a limpid style"; "lucid directions"; "a luculent oration"- Robert Burton; "pellucid prose"; "a crystal clear explanation"; "a perspicuous argument"
http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=limpid

If she meant "limp," it's a piss-poor shot.

I expected better from Maureen Dowd. My bad.

23. She effectively destroyed Gore with her "Alpha Man" analysis!
She did the same to Kerry, siding with the Repukes on the "girlie man" rhetoric.

I hate this woman and Bill Maher always invites her on his show. Probably trying to get laid, knowing Bill.

It's propaganda, it's bullshit, and I think it's time we stood up and told the corporate media to shut up.

27. Makes you wish Bill
would just fly to NY, fulfill her dreams by giving her a tumble, and get it over with. Pretty obvious where her venom comes from. She craves Bill and so is jealous of Hillary. Reminds me of the crazed cheerleader mom in Texas. Once again hormones and unrequited sex ruin a promising career. She will be remembered only as a smoldering, unconsidered woman.

her need for a finish to her book. Same with Rich.

Both finished, and Rich is tsepping up, but not MoDo.
