Repugs become slightly more literate - Change platform to read "Democratic" Party
Republicans stop mocking Democrats
from Jonathan Martin's Blogs by media@politico.com (Jonathan Martin)

Well, at least officially.

The change in party platform, as reported by AP, is an interesting shift for a party whose top politicians usually shorten "Democratic":

On Tuesday, members of the Republican platform committee meeting in Minneapolis voted down a proposal to call the opposition the "Democrat Party" in the 2008 platform. Instead, they'll go with the proper Democratic Party.

"We probably should use what the actual name is," said Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, the panel's chairman. "At least in writing."

In 1996, references to the Democratic Party were purged from a draft of the platform. As party leaders explained at the time, they wanted to make the subtle point that the Democratic Party had become elitist, no longer small-d democratic.

In the debate Tuesday, Jim Bopp of Indiana echoed that sentiment but said fair's fair.

"We should afford them the respect that they are entitled and call them by their legal name."

1. Baby steps...

My word. A sense of scholarly accuracy (when it's not inconvenient at least.) Someday maybe they will grow a sense of honesty. Perhaps even, given enough time, a conscience.

2. Glad to see the GOP is working to create change
The world is crumbling into a heap of shit of their own making and all they can do is write and rewrite their platform for political advantage or insult. Why don't you boys sit in the corner with the safety scissors and crayons and let the adults clean up for the next several years? Oh, and don't eat the paste!

5. That burns my ass every time I hear one of the RW talking heads
or idiot Senators & Reps refer to the "Democrat" party. I think even W has stooped to the name calling there.

6. Not entirely stupid . . .
Not only did that insulting usage actually make dems less likely to cooperate with them (thereby lowering 'Licans' effectiveness across the board), but schoolyard tactics just don't work -- by pissing dems off unecessarily, they energized their opponents' base in a way that will likely bite them on the ass come November.

I'm reluctant to give up on "'Lican," though . . .

7. "At least in writing." So they are still allowed to use it verbally...
Micro baby steps it is then. Their version of diplomacy is artificial improvements- their leadership and wing nut pundits are completely sophomoric in everything they do. Boehner will not honor this and the Savages on air will probably use Democrat even more now.
