Bush Protest today on Farmington, New Mexico
Bush was in Farmington today and spoke to a crowd of about 10,000 people. No loyalty forms were required and not all of the attendees were supporters. I joined a group of about 100 protesters along Main Street. The group was a lively mix of WW II vets, Viet Nam Vets, mothers, young and middle aged people, and a few Navajos. Most of the people driving by who honked at us gave us either the peace sign or thumbs up. The funniest supporters were the drivers of two separate Hallibuton trucks who gave us big smiles and thumbs up!
Farmington is in extreme Northwest New Mexico, adjacent to the Navajo Indian Reservation. Some of the biggest employers are probably Amoco and Halliburton. My favorite sign at the protest was "Yee Haw is not a foreign policy".

1. Met a woman from Farmington down here at the Las Cruces rally
with Edwards.

I hope the reservation can turn out votes for Kerry! She was dispairing about the lack of Kerry activity up there. I tried to give her some hope about how the reservation would help....

3. Navajo voters
I spoke to a woman who was working to register people on the Navajo Reservation. She felt like they mostly supported Kerry, but lots are not registered. She said that when she did registrations she always encouraged them to get absentee ballots because in November plenty of Navajos won't be able to make it to the polling place if there is bad weather....their homes are often so remote.
