3. They have Obama leading in Arizona.
WTF?
It would nice if McCain at least had to fight for his home state. Interestingly, they still mark it as read instead of blue or purple. Do they think its a bad poll?

4. I live in AZ and McCain is polling slightly higher here but
this state is within reach for Obama. He can make McBush work to have to win his own state.

7. Most of the Barr voters will switch to McCain at the end.
That's the usual pattern. It happened with Nader. It doesn't encourage me much.

8. Most McCain voters are not enthusiastic. They poll about 15% enthusiastic and 65% just voting
for who they feel is the lesser of 2 evils

Obama's numbers are almost exactly the reverse with over 60% enthusiastically supporting him and more like 15% voting for the lesser of 2 evils.

I don't know how many Barr voters will switch at the end.. Fewer that "normal" I hope

Also this does not include Ron Paul and he does have a tiny little following in some places.

9. turn Colorado Blue on that map
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 09:29 PM by 27inCali
and it's over

ditto either Ohio, Virginia or North Carolina.

Obama is up about 5% right now in the latest Colorado poll dead heat in the others.

probably will get a bounce there from the convention.

plus McCain's inanities re: water distribution.

and we haven't even started hitting him hard yet!

10. CO is only 9 EV.. we would still need another state.. Virgina or Missouri could be the best shots
just need one of those and we win. Colorado would be gravy.

assuming the rest of the states are correct.

11. Pollster.com has O 260, M 176
with 102 too close to call. All very interesting. Hopefully not taking new voters, cellphones, demographics, and investment levels into account. I would rather be a little ahead with all the unknowns favoring us than a tiny bit more ahead with nothing up our sleeve.

18. Wooohooo!
My states, IN and OH, are purple.

But I've been trying to tell people this for years and no one believes me.

I expect much more blue before November.

22. Almost, they have to get 270 electoral votes to win
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 09:16 PM by MiniMe
What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 electoral votes?

If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each State delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/faq.html#270

The nobody getting 270 electoral votes worries me, the House would select the President and the Senate would choose the vice President. We don't really have a majority in the Senate, I think it is 51-49. Given that LIEberman would vote for McSame, it seems like it would be 50-50. That means that Cheney would break the tie. That could mean that Barack would be President and a republican could be VP.

edited because I got it backwards. Duh.
