Apparently, they've built a fake floor.

"The type of onstage entrance that Bush will make has been a well-guarded secret throughout the convention planning. Officials have refused to say if it will be a conventional platform or something else, but some organizers have said a "theater-in-the-round" approach is likely.

Since the GOP took control of MSG in mid-July, workers have been constructing a new floor for the arena, raised above the actual floor by about 9 feet, with a hole in it that could allow for a dramatic entrance."

Hole = cave.

Either that, or GWB will be 'resurrected' on Thursday. Is Mel Gibson a consultant for the RNC?

2. The king kong reference is fantastic
Now that would be incredible and, sadly, probably not far from the truth. Can't you just see it.. Music crescendo... lights coming up.. rock concert smoke billowing out of a fake cave.. and Bush leading OBL out at gunpoint.

Sadly, I can see it.. geezus... I'm making myself sick.

4. It will be unimaginably tacky.
The stage willl be empty and the auditorium will go completely dark. A choir will start to sing, at first softly, perhaps accompanied by harp and celesta. As the choir sings, the volume increasing, the lights will gradually come up. Mist created by dry ice will swirl mysteriously around the figure of a man, barely seen in the dim light. The choir reaches a crescendo, and the lights change colors and strobe. Finally, as the choral paean reaches its climax, an intense spotlight reveals, in all his glory, The Chimpinator, dressed in an all-white suit. His arms will be outstretched, Christ-like, and he will be smiling beatifically. The music stops, the dry ice dissipates, he pauses dramatically, and then he says...

"Where the f*ck is the teleprompter?"

:puke:

Women fainting in the aisles.

Fundies doing their hands up praise and weeping in tongues.

Elmer f*ucking Gantry meets Elvis.

OR.

Osama as King Kong meets Silence of the Lambs.

Either way.

Branson misery level of tacky.
Turned up to 11.

5. Will he be wearing an oak leaf cluster and a toga?
This whole deal makes me squeamish.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the crowd will just trample him to bits in a fit of ecstasy.

11. Update
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/27/politics/campaign/27convention.html?hp

Sounds less sinister, more fabulous.

"I think the people are used to seeing conventions a certain way, and it gets old and tired," Mr. McKinnon said. "So we want to do something new and refreshing so that people might look at it differently."
