The PBS convention coverage is FAR superior to even MSNBC.....
They show the speakers a LOT more, and even when they do a round table discussion its very informative rather than just BLAH BLAH BLAH on most of the other "news" channels.

3. I actually don't mind his NYT editorials....
Even though I disagree with him on a ton of stuff, I actually respect his opinion, something not true for 99% of conservative pundits out there.

6. I find his analysis of Dem's littered with half truths and his analysis of repub's
full of wishes and what if's. He has been a little more realistic this campaign season that 2004 but he is still ignorant of many salient features of each candidates platform.

4. With the list of superior journalists they have I can stand his minimalist appearance.
Everyone else on their panel is great.

8. Yes, that is why I call him annoying--not infuriating.

10. I like Shields, maybe it's because he's been around forever and stayed with pbs
for a long time but he's dependable.

16. David Brooks was a regular sniggering schoolboy,
Geez, Louise, did you get a load of Brooks, Jim Lehrer, and even the sainted Mark Shields conducting one of the most shallow, condescending, utterly clueless discussions of minority and/or female candidates? They managed to cover Jesse Jackson's run but left out Shirley Chisholm -- rather crappy of them, considering it's Women's Equality Day.

Things got worse from there. I seem to recall Brooks was fairly gleeful about the relatively modest number of women in public office. He kept getting fixated on the strong representation of women among college and university students. One can only hope that someday one of these well-educated women will dislodge Brooks from his secure little seat on The Newshour -- and please let it be an older woman who displaces the little snot.

7. Absolutely!
We watched the coverage on PBS last night - with quick trips over to CNN, just to see the contrast.

At one point, Jim Lehrer was having a really great one-on-one chat with Jimmy Carter. We switched over to CNN, where they were interviewing a woman who had a toilet bowl glued to the top of her hat because, as she said, "The country has gone down the toilet under the Republicans and Bush."

I turned to JeffR and said, "And there you have it. Carter v Lady with Toilet Bowl Hat."

It was the perfect statement about the state of CNN's reportage, and their priorities in "covering" the convention.
