Our sign has already been stolen.
After only four days (I celebrated putting it up here), I found our Obama sign gone this morning as I put out the trash.

One of the poles was still in the ground, completely unbent. The other and the top portion that held the sign were completely gone. There was no wind last night. The only way it could have gone between yesterday and today was human intervention.

I ordered four more replacements from Obama today. I hope they get here quickly. I may hit CafePress or Vistaprint in the meantime to get a new one quicker.

1. Did the city remove it? We are not allowed to have signs on that area of our property.

16. See my post below.
It wasn't the City. Besides, they wouldn't have done it between midnight and 7 AM.

2. Try putting it closer to the house...
It'd be kind of easy to snatch it where you had it....

which just invites trouble. try putting it in your front yard...do you have those motion sensor flood lights? that should take care of anyone walking into your front yard as well.

15. It does. For a reason.
It's a relatively new development. The soil is extremely rocky, and we're all having trouble growing grass. The developer just put down one spray of hydroseed on top of (not under) straw during the winter and left it at that. We've all been struggling to get things to grow here.

How rocky is the soil? Part of this area used to be a family farm that went under and sold out. While digging to put in some holly shrubs last week, we dug out one rock that turned out to be two pieces of cinderblock mortared together. As we continued to dig, it turned out that when they cleared the land they just plowed a chicken coop under instead of tearing it down properly.

Some of the neighbors have been planting young maple and oak trees. We're putting in maple and fruit trees in the spring. We're going to make this place green in spite of itself.

17. How long does pepper spray last on a sign?
I don't want to have to touch it up every couple of days.

20. You can just spray the sign w/ a hot pepper spray
after painting on a very thin coating of vaseline .... it lasts a long time too.

As per your "greening" of your house .... plant natives, rain gardens are nice,
and top dress your lawn with compost in the fall and spring.

13. It wasn't the city.
The city doesn't have regulations against signs, and the proper placement for them (so I've been told) is in the strip between the sidewalk and the street. That's where everyone puts their signs so they're the most visible.

Besides, if the city removed it, they would have pulled out both posts and done the job completely.

9. My Obama sign has been in my window Since Obama came to Bristow VA
This week my condo Association sent us a letter saying someone complained so we have to take it down.
I want to put it in the Window of my Van for spite, but I am a little concerned my tires would get slashed

14. I had the same experience
There are court cases on this and almost always the citizen has won the case (free speech) against the condo association but taking a condo association to court is so time consuming and there are still no guarantees. You can take consolation in the fact that your neighbors know where you stand and in this case it is with the next president of the United States!
