Was the timing of the Biden announcement a flip-off of the print media?
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 07:03 PM by BOHICA06
The Obama campaign announced the selection of Joe Biden at such a time that US newspapers would either have to wait 24 plus hours for reporting and comment, or put out a special edition. Was it smart to have the New York Times cooling their heels? Was it a subtle message to the old-media that it was no longer relevant and would not be playing a role in this campaign?

Hmmmmmmm!

2. Breaking: stuff happens west of the Atlantic seaboard.
Our paper had the Biden announcement front paged w/o a special edition. The timing was only an issue on the east coast.

3. Usually an 11pm or midnight event .....
does not let the editorial staff have a say or any real column inches of story, even on the West Coast.

7. But they managed.

Tight deadlines happen sometimes. I know they're used to getting news timed and giftwrapped for them, but they certainly had advance indicators the announcement was forthcoming, and probably had largely prewritten a package on each likely pick.

6. I thought they sent out the message in the middle of the night because it was cheaper.
Off-peak hours.
