Ted Kennedy may visit convention
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/aug/24/ted-kennedy-may-visit-convention/

Sen. Edward Kennedy could make an unscheduled appearance at this week's Democratic convention if his physicians give him the go-ahead, his son says.

"If anything, it'd be an 11th-hour call," Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., said in a telephone interview Sunday with The Associated Press. "If he's up to it in the 11th hour and can get the green light from doctors, he might be able to pull it off."

Sen. Kennedy, diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor after he had a seizure in May, will be honored Monday night at the convention in a video tribute. He has had surgery and a six-week course of chemotherapy and radiation.

A surprise appearance by Kennedy, one of the party's most popular and prominent figures, could provide an emotional moment for Democrats gathered in Denver. The Massachusetts senator is one of nominee-in-waiting Barack Obama's strongest supporters.

14. Oh my, just the thought has me in tears right now.
When I think of Bobby not being able to stop the applause and the cheering that went on and on and on. And of Teddy after another brother was killed...

7. Ooh, I'd be kind of scared for him.
Isn't your immune system not so hot after all that stuff he is going through?

15. He's doing a video appearance?
That's WONDERFUL news. Even if it's on tape instead of a live camera, he can still watch the crowd's reaction on TV. But I'm hoping he can actually make it to Denver. That would be incredible. He has been one of Barack's strongest supporters on the national scene when much of the establishment refused to support Barack. He and Kerry have been there all along for Barack. :)

16. Filmmaker Ken Burns behind documentary tribute to Sen. Ted Kennedy
By M.E. Sprengelmeyer, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Sunday, August 24, 2008

DENVER -- Documentary filmmakers Ken Burns and Mark Herzog are behind a video tribute to Sen. Ted Kennedy that will debut on the first day of the Democratic National Convention on Monday.

Kennedy’s niece, Caroline Kennedy, is scheduled to speak about Kennedy’s 46 years of public service. And then the documentary will use interviews, archival footage and still photographs to celebrate the legacy of Massachusetts’ senior senator, who was diagnosed earlier this year with a brain tumor.

The senator reportedly has recorded his own video message talking about presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama, whom he endorsed and joined on the campaign trail earlier this year.

9. That would be awesome.
But I read on a different site (Politico?) that at the moment it's thought to be unlikely.

17. I have mixed feelings about this....
I have been hoping he would be able to be there, but it can take months for your immune system to recover. I'd hate to seem him risk it, get an infection, and leave us sooner. But then part of me thinks that if it is his time to go soon... well, maybe this would be the ultimate send-off... that it would be a lovely memory for everyone to be left with, and a great joy for him to experience with the Democratic audience before he goes.
