The Anti-Pumas

Note: this kind of story will get virtually no play in the media, because it does not incite divisiveness and is not harmful to Democrats. Even though it represents the vast majority of Hillary's supporters.

And remember, most of these people will become increasingly enthusiastic Obama supporters over the next few weeks as the fall campaign begins in earnest.

The Anti-Pumas

Democratic State Committeewoman Trudy Mason is pushing back against the "angry Hillary supporters" storyline that seems to have taken on a life of its own.

Mason, who counts herself as one of the most loyal of "Hillary women," is passing out buttons that read: "Hillary Supports Obama, So Do I!!"

She said the buttons are a spin-off of some pins handmade by Gloria Steinem for a joint Clinton-Obama women's event that was held following his landing the nomination.

"We're distributing them to key Hillary people because this is the way we feel," Mason said. "It's not like it's 'Rah-rah, Obama.' No. But he is our candidate, and we've got to support him. There are many, many of us. Enough with this PUMA stuff."

Mason, who is not a delegate but is on the Rules Committee, said she wasn't disappointed that Obama didn't pick Clinton to be his running mate - an issue that divided Clinton supporters.

"We had a lot of discussions about that," Mason said. "It was an even split. A lot felt she would add to the ticket, and that it was the least that should be done for her."

"But I think her voice is just so much stronger with her not being on the ticket. She goes back (to the Senate), and she can push health care, she can push so many things. That's what's important."

They should at least give them equal time opposite the PUMAs.

5. Good for her!
Finally, a strong and intelligent woman who lives in the real world. This is one woman Hillary should be proud to have as a supporter. Hillary isn't the nominee, but she can and, likely will be, a very strong force in the Senate. That is, if her more irrational (psychotic?) supporters don't destroy her reputation first.

Hillary's supporters should honor her primary achievement and her future achievements by acting like rational adults instead of embarrassing themselves and her with their ridiculous behavior.

99.9 % of Hillary Clintons supporters during the primary are like Trudy. Just a small group of "delusionals" who are just sucking the life out of Hillary, are getting all the press.

She has to do back flips to try and placate those 125 people. The rest are operation chaos

edit to add: getting all the press :)

29. Rainy, did you get an answer?
PUMA stands for Party Unity My Ass and is supposed to represent the die-hard Hillary supporters who refuse to support Obama. There's a website somewhere. But most DUers believe it's a Republican set up to create division and exploit it. True or not, I guess we'll know more after the convention.

32. k & r from a HC supporter who is now 100% Obama/Biden!
I, for one, have never thought Obama owed HC anything. Do I support Obama and think he is the only possible solution to our national crisis and international crisis? YES.

I am positive that the best candidate for these times won the primary and I have never worked so hard to get anyone elected as I am working for Obama.

PUMA drama is Rovian and strikes me as media-(i.e., WH/**/McSame)-driven propaganda. I think they found some of these people through central casting.

Tired of this drama and this issue WORKING on smart, media savvy people. Glad to see a thread of unity and support.

Note: One thing to note is that Biden worked on Violence Against Women laws. I know this issue is hardly a top contender in the many needs we have as a country right now, but it is a silent epidemic. We need to be the kind of country where we don't tolerate hatred on this level of any group. Obama/Biden can and will take us there.

SUPPORT for my phrase "silent epidemic":
-According to FBI statistics, 30% of female murder victims in 1990, the last year for which statistics are available, were killed by their husbands or boyfriends. That is approximately 3000 women. (Caroline Knapp, "A Plague of Murders: Open Season on Women, The Boston Phoenix, August 1992)
- The CDC reports that "ach year, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner related physical assaults and rape.
- Battering is the single greatest cause of injury among women in the US, accounting for more emergency room visits than auto accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
-In the US, 9 out of 10 women murdered are killed by men; most are at the hands of a male partner.
http://www.womenagainstrape.net/international_statistics.htm
-More than twice as many women are killed by their husbands or boyfriends as are murdered by strangers. (Arthur Kellerman, "Men, Women and Murder," The Journal of Trauma, July 17, 1992, pp. 1-5)

45. CNN's pushing the division meme. A Clinton delegate was asked why he's voting for Clinton at the
convention instead of Obama. He said he's there to represent where he's from and how the people voted. However, he said once the convention is over Obama has his vote in November. The female reporter threw it to Wolf Blitzer, who then made a comment about a divided party. I looked at that idiot Blitzer in disbelief. The Clinton delegate just stated he was voting for Obama in November and somehow Wolfie twists that into division?!? The MSM has a narrative for the Dem convention and they're sticking to it.
