Antonin Scalia.

Catholic.. Smart.. not too old not too youg.

He offends no one in the core GOP constituencies (fundies, neocons or fiscal conservatives)

ANd he will play well in Ohio and Western PA.

Mock me not. He is the perfect candidate. :sarcasm:

Nobody else is. All the candidates may being holding political office on election day (McCain's choose... who knows, I hope it is Lieberman)

12. Well first of all He is not a political office holder
but more fundamentally, becoming a candidate forces him to take poliitcal positions on a whole lot of fronts. that would showcase great predjucice should he try to reassume the bench.

But here is the thing there is a huge conflict brween strict constructionists views and republicanism. and putting Scalia on the campaign trail would showcase the double-mindedness of most Republicans.

3. Great, if he'll step down from the Court to run
That would clear the way for another progressive justice.

6. If McCain wants to avoid picking a running mate younger than himself,
Scalia would be a reasonable choice.
