We will have to have this one ready if Romney is picked.

4. She said "He is a Mormon" as if that is a bad thing.
Imagine if she had said "He is a black"

To Mormons it sounded extremely prejudice!

15. Well... most Fundies can't stomach Mormons
I grew up in a fundamentalist/evangelical household. Though I no longer consider myself a Christian, I do well remember that we were taught that Mormons were evil cult members.

I'm all for people worshipping who they want but if McCain chooses Romney he will alienate the many evangelicals in the south who absolutely believe Mormons are sinful, cultists who practice bigamy. They will not elect any ticket with him on it.

I don't like Mormons personally because I had three Mormons who tried very, very hard to recruit me my junior year in high school and I hated the hard-sell tactics. It further reinforced what I had been told that they were a "cult". A girl invited me to her home for dinner, and when I went it was actually a Mormon gathering and they kept me there late, and kept coming by my house, calling and trying to reach me. It got so that one summer I couldn't answer my door because they would come by very frequently.

So what they want to worship is their own business but I personally disapprove of how they tried to get members in my town in Georgia.

17. I have hundreds of Mormon relatives so I have been there too
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 03:27 PM by Quixote1818
Actually I have had Southern Baptists do that kind of stuff to me as well. Don't care for any of them though they are fine if they leave me alone. Though I do admit that it can be fun arguing evolution with them.

7. Many if not most Evangelicals think Mormons are devil worshipping cultists
it's only the leaders like Dobson, Falwell, and Robertson that have been willing to accept them.

9. Are we actually celebrating the fact that people are bigots?
Why would we want to have this one ready if Romney is picked? Bigotry is bigotry. There are enough things that we can say about Romney that are legitimate criticisms of his policies without playing to people's asinine prejudices.

19. So then perhaps we shouldn't have picked on George Allen for his comment?
We should have not "pointed it out". Now that would have really been effective, we would still have bigoted George Allen in the Senate. There is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out something someone believes and has already made public. She didn't seem to have a problem broadcasting it across the country. If she is OK with it why aren't you?

20. I don't think you are seeing the difference here
Of course we should have pointed out that George Allen was a bigot.

Maybe we are just talking past each other. Are you saying we should use this video to point out what a bigot MCCAIN is? Or use it to act bigoted toward Romney?

Perhaps I misunderstood what your OP was about?

22. Just point out that McCain's mother is bigoted toward Mormons
Do what Sean Hannity would do to Obama if his mother had said something bigoted toward a specific religion. A lot of Mormons would think that the Apple probably didn't fall too far from the tree and that he was just using Romney.

I think we were talking past one another.

I should not have posted without finding out what you meant first. Little trigger happy today, I guess.

I don't even have an excuse, so I'll just go with "I'm sorry".

13. Like McCain's mom?
This is no different than the Micacca thing with Allen only it's a candidates family member. If Michelle Obama had made the comment they would be all over it in a second.

21. Ok, you are right. We never should have pointed out that George Allen was a bigot
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 04:06 PM by Quixote1818
That was really mean for us to do. Pointing out bigotry is NOT racist, it's pointing out a fact and in most cases is civic duty.

On Edit: I am wondering if you watched the video. That was McCain's mom.

26. Romney put his own family dog on top of his car for a twelve hour drive (two directions.)
That should take care of all animal lovers. The Humane Society should have been knocking on the "moran's" door.

That reminds me of the scene where they left the dog on the leash attached to the car.
