We're not the only ones who think "Barack America" is a great slogan:

"Barack America!"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-s-mcelvaine/barack-america_b_120850.html

A slip of the tongue by Joe Biden as he spoke at his introduction as Barack Obama's running mate in Springfield, Illinois, this afternoon may prove to be the key to the election--and to what Sen. Biden brings to the ticket.

When Biden referred to Sen. Obama, he called him "Barack America."

Desperate Republicans and Faux News are trying to turn this slip to their advantage, mocking Obama as "Captain America."

In fact, the slip reflects what Obama represents: America as It Can Be, a "Yes, We Can!" America -- what has always been the Promise of America -- that we are all created free and equal; that everyone has the same chance; that there's nothing we cannot accomplish if we work hard and work together.

Barack Obama represents a renewal of the best of American values at the same time that he represents the American future.

The only way that John McCain can win is to succeed at what he has been doing: raising fears about Obama not being quite "American" enough.

And Joe Biden is one who will help greatly in knocking down that sort of politics of smear and fear. He will help to show that the Democratic presidential nominee is, indeed, Barack America, a man with the Vision to oppose Republican Division

"Who is this guy?" many voters have been worrying. Today Joe Biden told them who he is: Barack America."

gosh I'm beginning to feel all verklempt about the thought that YES Barack America is the American Dream.

I hope they keep on bringing it up. The more Americans hear those two words used together, the more they will internalize it.

21. Here's what I hear in it
There's a nice double entendre. Barack America could refer to the man, in which case it's just a nice psychological antidote to all the foreigner hints from the other side. With his story, he nothing if not American. It also refers to a kind of America where we have diversity and unity toward a common higher calling, the kind of America he is calling for. In both senses, it proudly seizes the patriotic terrain as progressive patriots.

8. ....gotta wonder just how much of a "slip" it was
W has made a career out of mangling language and it has served him well in obscuring any message and lowering expectations and accountability. Joe's "slips" should be just as useful!

12. Great!
Robert McElvaine started teaching history at Millsaps College my last year there. (I was a history major, but like a dunce I didn't take his course because I didn't want to have to "learn" a new professor my last year as that meant he would have to sit on my oral comprehensive board - I have been kicking myself ever since!) He is the author of "What's Left" back in the Clinton years and he has the distinction of having been a delegate for Gary Hart with my wife and I "back in the day" (I hate that expression). Ok, so, he wasn't with me, and so I was an alternate and my wife was a delegate, but we were all there!
:wow:

20. I am a Barack American.
Someone in the Obama campaign should start a 'I am a Barack American' campaign.

The Domain name barackamerican.com was taken this weekend, but I can imagine a commercial with people from all walks of life just standing up and saying:

"I am a Barack American because America needs to be respected in the world"
"I am a Barack American because America needs energy independence.
"I am a Barack American because ...

25. I am a Democrat who's willing to vote for Obama. I am not a Barack American any more than I'm a
Clinton American or a Gore American.

As I said in another of the topics about this -- this kind of thing plays best ONLY with those who are already very hardcore supporters. Like the campaign logo modeled on the presidential seal, it's likely to have the opposite effect on others.

I'll vote for Obama, support him and try to talk others into voting for him. But under no circumstances would I ever call myself a Barack American.

Honestly, I think this sort of thing is likely to revive the charges that Obama supporters are a cult. I don't think it will help his chances, any more than that campaign seal did, the one they scrapped so quickly.
