Just out of curiosity - is there going to a ban on right wing-styled attacks on Biden at DU?
I mean, I certainly don't mind impassioned discussions on his policy stances and prior voting record (if, indeed, some can actually have them before resorting to the tired "progressive" cliches of calling him a "whore" and a "dino" and "Bush lite.")

What I mean are the petty attacks you might see from McCain ads and such. Are we to be subjected to them? And, if you're prone to making them, please don't claim you're trying to "vet" him for us. We can have positive discussion on those type of attacks when they come from the right without one of us here actually making the attack for the right.

So, ban on the attacks or not?

1. Of course there won't
That would interfere with the long DU tradition of eating our own.

2. The trolls are already here. They will continue their Biden posts as long as allowed.
Be on the lookout. They are usually newbies, and uncharacteristically newbie-like, they are bold in their statements, and of course, critical of Biden (usually ONLY critical). Also...look for something you can imagine Sean Hannity saying.

They are everywhere.

13. They're not always newbies.
They quietly acquire 1000+ posts of under-the-radar comments and then usually out themselves as a 'concern' troll. I never noticed this phenomenon until the primaries.

6. You know what?
I think this forum is better with a wide range of opinion, not just people who tow the popular agenda. I've been around since 2001, and although there have been many contentous posts, as long as the OPs keep it respectful to other posters, I enjoy even dissenting type posts. We never want to get to the point where everyone agrees on everything....that would suck worse than having trolls!

We are not "Stepford Dems", and dems come in all flavors. Progressive dems, conservative dems, yellow dogs, blue dogs, independents, and everything in between.

Let freedom ring, bro!

7. There are lots of other forums for lots of different opinions.
I don't think it's too much for ask for folks posting here to support the Democratic ticket for President.

12. It is possible to support the ticket.....
....and still criticize it. We need scrutiny as well as support. What if Edwards had been selected BEFORE the revelation of his affair?

I am 100% behind our candidates, I just think we should allow room for differing opinion.

8. Was it like this in '04?
I found DU shortly after the '04 election so missed all the fun in the months prior.

Was it this contentious?

It sucks there are so many derisive posts. :(

10. Well, it's really sucky.
Apparently I've been naive in thinking that once we chose our nominees the attacks would stop.

Maybe I'll just stick with AP articles.

At least they can spell.

11. No...
People were frustrated with Kerry and his lack of response to the Swift Boat attacks, but there were very few posts attacking Kerry/Edwards on policy matters.

14. Now that he is our candidate, forum rules already prohibit any such attacks.
Whether or not said rules are enforced is above my pay grade.

15. We have unlimited threads so fifteen people will post outrage at the same right wing move.
That has bugged me very often. Many don't seem to take 30 seconds to scan threads and join an existing one. Instead they start a new one which puts the same right wing slur front & center again and again. Kind of like the corporate media running JSM III ads again and again "to discuss them."

And the PUMA this & that stuff. Enough already. I think we're finally letting it sink and then a few more threads appear to discuss stopping talking about the puma stuff. Wonder if there's another thread to lock and transfer those threads to-- Republican dirty tricks file. Historical artifacts.
