I got someone to register to vote today!
While checking in at my gym I was chatting with my trainer and the woman at the receptionist's desk. She often asks what I think of this or that political issue. We were talking about the P. Diddy/Laura Bush conflict and I said something along the lines of "you're registered to vote aren't you?" and she said no! She is a Latina who has been a US citizen most of her life and she has never voted. Both my trainer and I encouraged her to register immediately and since she has internet at the desk, she did just that.

At one point my trainer nearly fell over laughing when she asked me if she should register as a Democrat or a Republican. I said I wouldn't tell her, then she asked if I could explain the difference. Before I could get a word in, my trainer said, "Republican equals Bush; Democrat equals Clinton." "Oh! so I'm a Democrat!" she replied. I explained that she would receive a registration card in the mail with the address of the polling place and that even though it wasn't required by law, she should probably bring ID with her when she goes to vote. I'll probably go with her as we both live in the same district.

It is a tiny step, but I finished my workout and left feeling like I had made the world a slightly better place.

4. I see her every morning.
I told her I'd go to the polls with her. She's a really cool woman who is raising two kids, working full time and trying to finish up her degree. Exactly the type who will benefit from a Kerry presidency.

6. Good stuff
I'm bugging my friend everytime I see him to get his ass registered. That too we live in a swing state (which leans Kerry), but every vote counts.
