New Mississippi Poll: Obama getting 13% of the white vote, 97% of AA's
John McCain continues to hold a double-digit lead over Barack Obama in Mississippi, according to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters in the state.

McCain now leads his Democratic opponent by 13 points 54% to 41%. That’s a couple of points more for McCain than he enjoyed in July. Counting “leaners,” McCain leads 56% to 43%, also a bit better than last month for the Republican hopeful.

McCain is now viewed favorably by 63%, Obama by 44%.

The Republican leads 84% to 13% among white voters, while African-Americans favor the Democrat by a 97% to 2% margin.

McCain is viewed favorably by 88% of white voters and 18% of black voters.

For Obama, the numbers are reversed. He gets favorable reviews from 92% of black voters and only 18% of white voters.

41. It is like the NYT article which was focused on race and was a hit piece on Michelle. They included

a stat like that which looked racially bad but when put in perspective was completely normal. I hate that sh#$!

The people of Mississippi probably hate it too. Their problem is with Democrats, not necessarily black Democrats.

17. There's two ways to look at that
You could say that Obama is pretty much doing as well as Kerry among whites. The other way to look at it is that Dems have gained a lot in party ID since 04, so if a non minority Dem was running, you could see 20% of the white vote for that Dem.

My opinion is the first one, but either way, Obama would have to turn out blacks in RIDICULOUS levels to make Mississippi close.

34. I call bullshit.
Post your link for the separate graduations. There have been separate dances for whites and blacks --- at the request of the black students. I don't think that is the greatest idea but it is not some sort of racial enforcement.

32. I taught there from 95 to 97
The high school I taught at was overwhelmingly African American (I had 2 white students out of about 150) in an area about 2/3 African American. The white kids went to a private academy. It was pretty bad down there. I heard the n word commonly.

31. Well, it's not all of MS...
I don't see how it's any different than Obama's racial problems in states like Pennsylvania or Ohio. These people have irrational fears and are easily persuaded by any kind of negative campaigning against him. It's not fair, but it's true. And it's going to continue for some time even if Barack can manage to win this election. He's living by a double standard and he has to literally be perfect in order to win, whereas someone like McCain can get away with many mistakes and still be "worthy" of getting the vote of these types of people.

Please STOP!

Have you ever been polled by his agency?!?!?!?

Do you know how hard they "PUSH POLL" after you state that you're voting for Obama???????????

Do you know why ReTHUGS prefer Scott Rasmussen's polls over any other pollster in the nation?

Did you know that Scott Rasmussen wrote a book called "GOP Nation, how the Republican can rule for the next 100 years"

Scott Rasmussen, Rightwing Nutjob

You are fixated on his polls!!!

29. Well he is definitely on the far right
but the polling agency wasn't the point of this thread. Are you suggesting that another polling company would show this race to be closer? Close enough to be considered a swing state?

I was interested in this because Kerry got 14% of the white vote, while Obama is getting 13%. And Obama is getting 97% of AA's, much more than Kerry, and the state is still not in play!

while they persist in electing people that will put the screws to them.

The American working class is confused and divided; their class consciousness neutralized by xenophobia, militarism, homophobia, uber-patriotism, and reactionary religious views.

43. Not True!!! This poll is bogus!
It will be a different story when there is a secret vote. If you think 97% of your peers support one of the candidates, you will support them too in a public poll when there are race baiters trying to stir up trouble! The race baiters are not Southerners, by the way.

People in Mississippi get along with each other a lot better than you would think. They have a shared history. On a personal level, they like one another.

Too many people are prejudiced against Southerners, and it is easy for media elitists to dismiss them. Dissing someone else does not make you better, but that is the motivation.
