Kerry campaign to pull "McCain" ad :-(
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 11:14 AM by Flubadubya
Just heard this on CNN. The ad that they had just taken from the internet and started to run in battleground states is to be pulled according to Wolf Blitzer, i.e. this one: http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/releases/pr_2004_0821c.html

This is the one where McCain hands W. his ass on a platter for smearing vets. Reason given for retracting the ad was "out of respect for John McCain." This was the most telling, hard-hitting thing I had seen to date that really shows what a slimeball Bush&Co. are.

Give me a break... out of respect for McCain? How does the truth hurt McCain. Those were his words and he meant them. OMG, we don't seem to have a snowball's chance in hell. I have never been so disgusted and frustrated.

3. Well
McCain didn't want them using it. I thought that was inevitable when I first saw it.

They ought to just take film of Max Cleland yesterday and play that. That's better than using a Republican in your ad any day.

I guess McCain left his courage in Vietnam. He lets Bush intimidate him more than the Vietcong.

11. Actually I never saw anyone posting that McC is not a "coward" NOW
The only argument was whether it applied to his Vietnam service.

As to his behavior now, I doubt you'd find too many arguments. Pragmatic decisions in your own best interest, I guess I can understand, but not after the despiccable deeds of Bush et al in 2000 to McC, his wife, and his daughter. That to me is cowardice.

so it did its purpose; McCain's been a bit lukewarm shilling for Chimpy and speaking kindly of Kerry, why piss him off (besides, licking Chimpy's hand is punishment enough for McCain)

8. Actually they had just begun to run it on TV...
"in some battleground states" is what I heard, meaning that Kerry endorsed the ad. Sure, it's been on the internet for awhile now, but would never have the impact it would have on mainstream TV. There would not have been a cry from the McCain camp if it were not put out in the mainstream.

Good husbandry of resources. It's played out and will continue to play out without more cash due to the media coverage of the dispute.

Good call.

10. it's okay
It was extremely ballsey to put it out there in the first place featuring a fellow Puke dissing *. It ran for a couple days, and garnered a modicum of media attention, though no where near as much as SBV's. Still, is probably some kind of deal going down behind the scenes between Kerry/McCain camps regarding 527's.

Just wait till Cleland makes an ad, especially after yesterday's foolishness. . .ought to be a scorcher.

13. I think you're right
I wonder, too, if now that Kerry has shown his respect for McCain, McCain will again call on Bush to repudiate the SBVT.

BTW, this ad was out there for days. I think it's interesting McCain waited for now to ask to have it pulled. I know he was overseas, but he could've called Kerry days ago about this before it was even shown.

They knew McCain would probably request that they not use his image in any ads. McCain let it go for several days and I was surprised. Why would he do that if he was for Bush?? When Bush asked McCain to get Kerry to withdraw the ad, the campaign did out of courtesy to McCain. But, it's already done its job. :) Great move by the Kerry campaign, contrary to all the hand-wringing about bowing to the Bush/Rove machine.

16. McCain to be on Daily Show Mon night
I wonder if Jon will ask John why he hasn't been more forceful with Bush over smears on vets.

You know, TDS could be a good place for McCain to make a point over the fact that Kerry has denounced and pulled ads while Bush hasn't. In a funny, subtle way, of course

overtly force chimpy's hand. We must pick our battles and one with McCain would not be one we could win, without being bruised. Most of all, this let's Kerry appear as more eager to 'heal" and move on in a positive fashion (rather than slash, slime, and divide). Your move chimpy...

McCain is pissed off about being used in ads by both sides. Bush is currently trying to get McCain to join him in attack on 527s. Best for Kerry to not give McCain any further motivation to help out Bush.

20. Why advertise one did it out of respect for McCain?
This is the most crucial election ever-our very lives and of our loved ones are at stake, literally-a man has got to play to win and if in the process a Republican has to feel slighted, then godamm it, that is the way it is. This is NOT the US Senate where senators get up and call the other side, my comrade on the other side of the aisle, and give all sorts of compliments to the opposition before debating

If the ad has served it's purpose they simply let fade away--that would have been smarter in my estimation.

I think this is a very weak move. Turns me off.

At the end of the election, the rethugs still have thin control of the senate. mcccain might than be elected senate leader. then mccain and kerry will still be friends and will work together to fix the country.

Why should our party have respect for him.

Sure, he has done things in the past that are good but every time the right wingers need him to say something nice for Bush he does it and he kisses Bush's ass any chance he gets.

I say screw him and run the damn ad!

28. I'll bet it'll be replaced...
...by an ad with one or more of the new players siding with Kerry. McCain was effective at showing how dirty * runs a campaign but the appeal is too narrow. Exposing the links to * and the lies of the Swifties will draw a larger audience in both the media and swing voters, IMO.

Also, I thought this had been a 527 to begin with and the Kerry people thought it was so good (which it is) that they would endorse it and put it out on TV media. Someone please correct me if this is wrong, but this is what I understood it to be.

The Scum Boat Vets for Bush never paid for an airing in the first place for the second ad. Just put it on the internet and Rush will replay it, or Hannity.

Move on can do the same.

34. This is Great! Smirk had to call McCain and GROVEL.
McCain politely asked Kerry to stop the ad, and Kerry, gentleman that he is, gave McCain all due respect and honored his request.

Hey, whats the beef. Most everyone who was going to see this ad has already seen it. McCain wins a big victory over Smirk, and in my way of thinking, so did Kerry.

Just remember Smirks response to Kerry merely asking him to disavow the SW ad. Kerry looks great for this.

Kerry.....thoughtful, responsive, respectful.
Smirk....arrogant, stupid, lost in the shuffle.

Hmmm, I cannot help but wonder just HOW much collusion is secretly going on between our man and McCain.

Bush Campaign Refused to Pull Olympic Ad

ATHENS, Greece - President Bush's re-election campaign refused a request by the U.S. Olympic Committee on Thursday to pull a television ad that mentions the Olympics.

Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said the ads will continue through Sunday, the final day of the Athens Games.

"We are on firm legal ground to mention the Olympics to make a factual point in a political advertisement," Stanzel said.

The USOC asked the campaign to pull the ads on Thursday, committee spokesman Darryl Seibel said. The ad shows a swimmer and the flags of Iraq and Afghanistan.
