From Chuck Todd "Biden is the candidate many Republicans least wanted to see."!!!
On the Democratic side, it was a collective "phew." As the days got nearer for the pick, it was hard to find a Democrat -- even savvy Clintonites -- who weren't hoping it would be Biden. Only the most strident Hillary supporters appear to be upset this morning. On the GOP side, the sound you heard was disappointed silence. Of everyone on the short list, the candidate many Republicans least wanted to see Obama pick was Biden. Sure, they've already trotted out their talking points. And the McCain camp even produced a rapid-response TV ad highlighting some unkind words Biden said about Obama during the primaries. (We assume this now means McCain won’t be picking Romney, right? And doesn't the McCain ad actually send the message to swing voters that Obama's willing to surround himself with critics?) But there are too many intellectual conservatives (see David Brooks) who believe Biden's the most qualified guy Obama could have realistically picked.

2. That quickshot GOP ad is gonna haunt them ...
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 03:32 PM by RoyGBiv
It'll be hard to find any Republican who hasn't criticized McCain for something at one time or another. So, if they want to play that game, fine.

Bring it.

BRING IT.

Bastards got served today.

10. McCain gets free publicity on MSNBC and CNN

Since the Obama camp made the announcement about Biden they have been running
the negative ad where Biden rips into Obamas experience and praises McCains experience, etc...
If the repugs continue to run that ad it could do some serious damage.

15. It won't do ANY damage. ALL opponents say negative things about their opponents. He already
addressed that during the speech today, anyway.

11. Biden referred to his negative comment on Obama in his speech. He said, however,
how much he had learned in the meantime by debating Obama 12 times. I think it is a perfect "stop the McCain slam technique." He can continue to repeat the explanation until the so-called slur is useless. His obvious elation at running with Obama in itself negates any earlier criticism anyway. Except for Bush et al, people can change their minds with new info; in fact such ability is a plus.

12. I loved when Chuck Todd said last night
that he asked a Repub a couple of weeks ago what they were going to do if Obama picked Biden, and the Repub just paused and said "....he doesn't have the guts to pick Biden!" Heh, ok. The attack ad is very lame to me too...the footage of Mittens going after McCain is much more damning, bc they attacked each other on character issues as well, and showed so much personal contempt for each other.

Apt moniker, Gman.

Funny how you can use language like "purist" in a pejorative way toward me, but this post will be deleted if I call you something that lives under a bridge.
