Chuck Hagel says: "Biden pick is great for America"

Glad he got over his disappointment at not being Obama's choice... he was so close!

3. My pick would be Wes Clark for that position...
but I've been told he has to be out of the military for 10 years to be eligible.

8. Correct, SecDef is almost ALWAYS run by a civilian....
Using a civilian is supposed to provide a stopgap between the military and the Executive branch. Clark will most likely be offered some sort of advisory role within the White House. How close are Clark and Biden personally?

4. I think he let Obama float his name to give Obama non-partisan credibility--
Hagel knows he wasn't ever on the short list, probably not even on the long list. He has been really good to Obama.

7. That's a very interesting theory.
And, very possibly, an accurate one.

11. The Obama camp wouldn't have taken the risk of allowing his name
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 03:50 PM by wienerdoggie
to be floated as a possibility if they thought Hagel would have publicly embarrassed Obama by saying "Hell no!" when asked if he would consider being Obama's VP. They knew he would be gracious about it--unlike the way McCain embarrassed Kerry, after their little fantasy ticket proposal was made public.

26. McCain lied about that - Kerry would only consider it IF McCain left the GOP.
Since McCain decided to stay in the GOP, he was never even considered for VP.

9. Yes, and I think something solemn happened between Biden-Kerry-Hagel when that copter went down
in Afghanistan, stranding the three of them there for hours. I believe Hagel knew he was with men who would stand together to protect each other. How many Republican big names would even consider risking their own life out of concern for others?

14. I must have missed something - what copter went down?
How did I miss Kerry, Hagel and Biden in a downed copter?

15. Because corpmedia didn't GIVE A SHIT. They gave it minimum coverage.
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 06:09 PM by blm
And the three men didn't make a big deal out of it. If it had been Lieberman, Graham and Kyl, we never would've heard the end of it from corpmedia who would've hailed them as heroes.

Kerry, Biden, Hagel make emergency landing in Afghanistan
By Associated Press
Thursday, February 21, 2008 - Added 184d 2h ago

WASHINGTON - Helicopters carrying three senior U.S. senators made emergency landings today in the mountains of Afghanistan because of a snowstorm.

Sens. John Kerry, Joseph Biden and Chuck Hagel were aboard the aircraft. No one was injured, according a statement from Kerry’s office. The senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and have left for Turkey.

21. Yes, it is. And it is frightening that the corporate media has the power to make sure as few people
knew about this as possible. Even people like you who would have WANTED to know.

and knows that Bush and Cheney are criminals, and his party is covering for them.

10. I don't know about that...
McCain is roundly disliked in some Republican corridors. All it would take is a guy like Hagel to say, "This guy is too much of a hothead to be the President," and you might have a dozen or more congressional Republicans jumping ship.

I think it could happen. Especially if McCain runs a trainwreck of a campaign and the GOP is trying to salvage what's left.

12. There are already plenty of GOP candidates who won't even show at the convention.
That tells me their internal polls are strikingly unlike the corpmedia polls.

24. Something like eight Senators who won't attend?
And didn't Gordon Smith drop his ceremonial role as State Chairman for McCain?

I think it will take only a small shove to have them heading for the exits.

18. A few have already done that , but no big names yet..
I suspect we may see more. There is an intense struggle within the GOP right now.

22. I believe you are exactly right on that.....
Just as Dems had 15 years of Clinton wing vs Kennedy wing, I do believe you're right that GOP is about to go through same struggle between Bush wing and the Goldwater wing.
