Incoherent ramblings from Cindy McCain...likens herself to a single mother.
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 12:52 PM by tallahasseedem
Cindy McCain has dishonored real military wives who go through hell day after day while their husbands are away with this article. It is completely disgusting and most certainly par for the course with them.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/142650

~snip~

Over the 28 years of her often long-distance marriage to Capt. John McCain, USN (Ret.), she says she thought of herself as a Navy wife whose husband was off on tour—albeit on Capitol Hill instead of somewhere in the North Atlantic. "It was almost like a deployment," Cindy told NEWSWEEK. "What I told the kids from the time they were little is that their dad was deployed and serving our country in Washington."

Cindy has sometimes likened herself to a single mother; now 54, she has often been far away from her husband during difficult moments, including two of three miscarriages she suffered in the 1980s. Years later, her husband did not notice when she became addicted to painkillers, a habit, she says, brought on in part by the stress of politics. In 2004, he was on the other side of the country when she suffered a stroke that left her partly debilitated. On her own, she learned to walk again. Cindy says she doesn't resent the time she has spent without her husband. It was her choice to stay in Arizona while he rose in Washington, and she says she knew when she married him that he was always going to "put country first."

~snip~

So much for family values. These two really are delusional.

1. You try taking care of 9 houses, when your husband's not even on the title.

2. Oh poor pious Cindy. What a victim!
:sarcasm: Never mind she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and wouldn't know how to relate to the average American.

Don't we all feel sorry for her suffering? :sarcasm:

10. And she's certainly making up for all that time apart now.
My gawd, the woman is up his butt 24/7. Have you EVER seen a candidate whose wife is standing behind him EVERYWHERE he goes?

He doesn't look healthy to me. She probably has to remind him to take his meds.

Some of them have severe side effects, and can have a permanent, cumulative effect.

4. Oh come on, all military wives are alloted $300,000 per year for domestic help!
The more they try to highlight how "like us" they are, the more out of touch they seem.

6. She's despicable.
Poor Cindy. Her hubby is gone all week and she has no one to help her keep track of all her houses and half-sisters. Good thing she's got a $270,00/year staff to help her keep track of her kids. :nopity:

8. I don't think canddates wives are automatically fair game.
Cindy McCain has been used more as a stage prop, rather than an active campaigner. She strikes me as a rather passive woman, with a somewhat fragile personality, who does what her husband tells her to do. Unlike Theresa Kerry, she doesn't seem to have control over her own life. And living with John McCain can't be a pleasant experience.

9. C'mon, don't be so hard on Cindy!
The only way she and her little kids could see their dad was by taking a private plane to DC and surely you realize the wee ones couldn't partake of the lobster and champagne on board-- so the poor little darlings always arrived hungry and fussy. Good thing Cindy always had "magic candy" to make the sweet angels drop right off to sleep.

13. Jeezus.
Why don't the McCain's campaign in clown suits. Now it's Cindy McCain as Single Mom. Plagiarized recipes, Wikipedia for foreign affairs, Crosses in the sand, forgetting about houses, imaginary Mother Theresa moments. Now I know why they spend $270,000 a year on help. It's to clean up all the bullshit.

14. For someone so rich, she has been robbed of a true partner in life.
I guess this is what McCain was talking about when he said that being rich doesn't mean you are happy.

I feel bad for her.

I suspect that when he said that to Cindy, he was spelling "country" a slightly different way. :yoiks:

17. "It was almost like a deployment..."
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:59 PM by Rob H.
"What I told the kids from the time they were little is that their dad was deployed and serving our country in Washington."

As the son of a (now-retired) sailor who really was deployed all over the world--and couldn't come home whenever he felt like it, unlike McCain--I find that incredibly insulting. Mr. "Free Ride 'Cause my Dad and Granddad Were Admirals" stayed away because he wanted to, not because he had to, and by the time they had children together, he'd already been retired from the Navy for three years.

24. More importantly, his job description didn't require him to go to war when asked, or to bunk up..
in a narrow berth for months at a time. Comparing the lives of a senator's family to a sailor's family is absolutely ridiculous. And insulting.

husband

Cindy always had that option open to her
