5. if nearly 80% of DUers say very good or fantastic
then that is one smoken hot choice of VP... I think Biden is very likeable... he makes mistakes but has many redeeming qualities, and if he can get McCain to embarrass himself that will be delightful.

14. DUers, especially in GDP, are not at all representative of the party.
Polls showed a majority of Democrats thought Clinton should be VP. This forum is filled with Clinton-haters who drove Clinton supporters out.

19. Actually I heard polls that said Biden was popular
across the Democratic party. Adding Hillary Clinton to the ticket would not have helped Obama with any particular group that he is weak with, like older white males. Hopefully Biden can do that.

7. I honestly think he will be a very good mentor for Obama
He knows he has no chance to be president. He cares about the country and wants to use his talents in the best way possible. This is it. Good for him.

11. a lawyer who spends their entire career in the senate
has to be altruistic- its like a doctor who spends his or her entire career in academia- it may be prestigious but you don't make any money doing it.

9. Very good. Al Gore would have been fantastic, but Biden's a solid choice.

12. Biden is an awesome live speaker - I saw him at an appearance
prior to the Iowa Caucus and the capacity crowd was certainly electrified. Just a shame that so few got the chance to see him in person. I was a little disappointed at his lack of activity in the state in the months leading up to it, and of course he ended up paying for it by a lack of support.

17. It was THE best choice he could make (and I'm a die-hard Clarkie)
It's probably the smartest VP selection since 1964, if not since 1944.

20. I am seriously underwhelmed.
All that hype and anticipation -- the text message is sent in the wee hours of Saturday morning, before West Coasters are out of bed, and it is Biden?

If Obama wanted a politics-as-usual senator who voted for the war, he should have gone with Hillary and the Unity ticket -- at least it would have made her supporters happy.

Not at all the buzz and excitement I remember when Bill Clinton picked Gore. Very disappointing.

I was hoping that Obama would hit it out of the park, and he barely got a base hit.
