Kennedy/Johnson = Obama/Biden? Hmmmmmmm.
This is the comparison made last night on ...I think it was CNN. I thought it was pretty apt.

Except, of course, that Obama and Biden actually LIKE each other.

1. If that were true Biden would be from a swing state
and he and Obama would hate each other.

Biden wasn't one of the ones I really wanted as VP, but am glad now that he was Obama's pick. I was focusing on Clinton because of desparately wanting Obama in the White House, and had thought she was the only way he could win, but I believe I was wrong.

Biden is solid, and has the most experience of all of the prospective candidates. Also, he has that way with words that really cuts foolishness to the quick. He also looks very Vice Presidential, even Presidential. But then again, so does Obama, in that Kennedyesque way.

Speaking of which, Caroline Kennedy helped with the pick, which is a plus, because Obama allowed a woman, and a well-respected one at that, to have a say in this, which says a lot about him. I'm sure she's heard all the stories we'll never hear about all the politicos in DC. Also, I was only a tad disappointed when I found out Biden was the pick, but got over it within a half hour. I'm hoping this is the same with many others, and it doesn't hurt that many people on DU love this pick and were hoping for it.

3. Don't Think So
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 10:07 AM by salonghorn70
Kennedy and LBJ were more competitive going into the convention. JFK actually didn't have the nomination nailed down going into the roll call. Was it Teddy who rushed to the Wyoming delegation and started waving the Wyoming banner when Wyoming put Kennedy over the top? Also, there was a great deal of hatred between the two camps going into the convention. Also, the North-South ticket really doesn't compare to Illinois-Delaware.

4. Kennedy and Johnson didn't get along. I don't think that is the case with
Obama and Biden

5. I think it bodes well...
...for Obama that he's confident he can sit on Biden, when Biden needs to be sat on, as Kennedy say on Johnson, or Lincoln sat on Seward and Chase when they needed it. He didn't pick a yes-man. Bet you a dollar Obama's read A Team of Rivals...

7. Whoever said that is in love with their own voice. They are nothing alike.
Johnson was at odds with Kennedy, and the selection of Johnson was forced on Kennedy.

10. Nope. I think there is a complete miss on this comparison if you've read about LBJ and Kennedy.
