Saving my 1000th post for this moment
I am so delighted at the Obama/Biden ticket. I have not posted for a day or so, waiting and holding on to this hoping that it would be Biden. I wanted my 1000th to go to GDP and to say what an awesome ticket this is going to be.

I have posted before this, but while my husband and I were Obama supporters at the caucuses in Iowa, our son was the Biden precinct captain.

We have been hoping for this ticket since Obama took the nomination. Sometimes the world just spins on its axis in a way that brings you joy.

And as much as I wanted Biden, I know others had their favorite also. I respect that, because I know how disappointed I would have been, but it's about getting our people elected. Even my brother in South Dakota who is a die hard Hillary supporter, agrees, this is just a great ticket.

In the end it is all about taking back the executive branch and returning sanity to the country. And we are well on our way.

Peace reigns in the Peacetrain family.

26. Thats great ! Grats on 1k !
I was initially for Biden but I realized fairly quickly that he wasn't catching on so I started looking more closely at the rest of the field. Obama was a good fit for me so i jumped on board but in my heart I always watched to see if Biden would catch on. In fact it wasn't until my caucus that i finally gave my vote to Obama. It was always Joes if he could use it.

It is just pure sweetness that we get to have them both. I am thrilled today for all of us but also for you and your family!

How great that your sons hard work in the end really paid off.

Gobama! and Go Joe!

Love em both!

40. Man, that's some impressive restraint!
I bet it's been hard not to jump in on some of these.

I'm really glad about the Biden choice. I liked him during primary season. I liked him, Kucinich, and also Chris Dodd for leaving the campaign trail to go back to DC singlehandedly to fight the damned FISA shit. AND I liked Hillary and Bill Richardson, AND of course, Barack. But Biden's smart and has the chops in foreign policy. After all...

Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, said he had been asked to go to Georgia by President Mikheil Saakashvili for talks over the conflict with Russia.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080816/pl_afp/usgeorgiarussiaconflictvotebiden

Overseas, where it counts, they ask for him, by name.

It just about says it all, and why this is such a good team. I loved all our canidates, but this just seemed to me the best fit. I pulled this out of your link, it is great. You now this would be a wonderful thread all its own

" Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, said he had been asked to go to Georgia by President Mikheil Saakashvili for talks over the conflict with Russia.

"I am going to Georgia this weekend to get the facts first-hand and to show my support for Georgia's people and its democratically-elected government," said Biden in a statement."

45. He's the go-to guy for much of the world. They know and respect his expertise
and insights. It means he's good at dealing with people - ALL KINDS of people from other cultures, backgrounds, histories, conflicts. THEY ask for him. Mainly because he's had such a great track record for such a long time that most of 'em know him personally and have had time to build some solid relationships, and if they're so new they haven't had a chance to meet him, they know all kinds of other elder statesmen in their country who do. Biden already has all their home numbers and private cell numbers.

And even that disgusting neocon knuckledragger david brooks in the NYTimes bows to him. Salutes him as a "lunch-bucket Democrat" - which gets us directly to the blue-collar whites we need to lock in, too. He's another non-elitist.

I find myself hoping that our Dems can turn around that republi-CON argument "um... he's NOT one of US..." against mcsame and whichever little friend he decides would be good to partner with. THEY are the ones who are "NOT one of US." Who do YOU know who's worth triple-digit millions and can't even keep track of how many houses they own????? Country-club republi-CONS. And tell me! Which country-club do YOU belong to? (Maybe one of those old, long-time classics that only allow blacks in - to work in the kitchen and the custodial staff?)

55. Yeah, the ol' broken clock being correct twice a day thing. Certainly true here.
And he grew up in Scranton PENNSYLVANIA. That puts Pennsylvania closer to us. And that's one of the must-have states this time around.

The meme - "he's NOT one of us" should be repeated AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE by all of us against mcsame.

HOW MANY people do YOU know who can run up 300-thousand dollars on their credit card - in ONE MONTH?

HOW MANY people do YOU know who can't even remember how many houses they own?

HOW MANY people do YOU know who can fly wherever they want in their own private jet?

HOW MANY people do YOU know whose wives are dripping in Escada (VERY pricey European design stuff - upscale professional clothes)?

HOW MANY people do YOU know who are walking around in 500-plus-dollars-a-pair shoes?

Yeah, I know, these are all cheap shots. Guilty as charged.

Yeah, I know, this schtick promotes class warfare and resentment and all that other crap. Guilty as charged.

But I ALSO know that playing nice with these people, and refraining from sticking the knife in and twisting it, is the way we Dems seem to have wanted to do things. But times have changed. We no longer have gentlemen campaigners. Well, maybe we never really did. That's probably just a myth. They were slinging mud back in Thomas Jefferson's day, too. Hell, they slung mud at Jesus Christ, and how long ago was that???

And I ALSO know that we Dems HAVE TO WIN this time. If we're serious about saving our country, that is.

One thing I'll repeat here and anywhere else - I'm as Machiavellian as the next guy. And NOTHING is off the table when fighting the republi-CONS. NO blow is too low. NO attack too shitty or out-of-bounds. There is no out-of-bounds. NO ploy is too dirty. SO WHAT if they whine and snivel and cry foul! After what they've done to us? After what they've done to our country? After what they've done to some of their own (john mcsame versus george w. bush in South Carolina in 2000). Politics is a dirty business. Political campaigns are not for the faint-hearted. Especially if we want to win. And that's ALL that counts: WINNING.

And frankly, I rather LIKE the idea of dumping shit on republi-CONS. They wallow in it anyway. What difference will a few gallons more make?
