Folks, save yourselves some aggravation. Accept that the media was going to scoop the text msg.
And, understand that the text message was basically a marketing/media device and is really meaningless in the big picture.

And, quit taking it so damn personally! My goodness, I can't believe the number of people who acted as though not getting a freaking text message was the worst experience of their lives.

And, finally, realize that our presidential candidate dominated the right-wing media airwaves for pretty much the entire week and will be the top story for the next several days.

Remind me again how that's a bad thing?

1. I was feeling peeved earlier, but realized - he gave the media a gift
they're going to be gloating about how they scooped him. And they'll still be talking about Obama instead of McCain :)

4. For days and days and days ...

From the first time I saw this idea, I thought, WTF? So, even if somehow they are able to keep it so under wraps that the first mention of it we get is a text message, every news outlet on earth is gonna be subscribed to it. So, where's the scoop? And then it became clear that the media took it as a challenge.

Hey, if nothing else, Obama forced them into doing some actual investigative reporting. That, in and of itself, is a freaking miracle.

Of course all this assumes they're right.

I'd laugh solidly for a full day, I'm sure, if this were a Dewey defeats Truman moment. I like Biden and would be happy with him as the choice, but there's this part of me that *so* wants the MSM to be wrong that I have this lingering hope they aren't, just so they have all these false headlines floating out there everywhere they have to explain later.

2. No. I took him at his word. His word better not be meaningless.

8. What was his word?

That he'd send you (and a few million of your closest friends) an e-mail or txt message about the VP pick before he made his official announcement?

He hasn't gone back on that promise.

9. What word was that?
The claim that the announcement would be Friday was media-created.

15. It was Bayh who leaked it.
I am sure Obama is very disappointed.

Never did trust Bayh.

6. Yep. It's the media's JOB to 'scoop' things. And while people may get a text message...
...it was also a marketing tool to get email addresses and contributions. That fact was mentioned here on DU multiple times. It wasn't a dirty secret. It was out in the open.

The media's 'scoops' are sometimes wrong. This one may be too. No sense getting all personally offended about any of it.

12. I thought the odds were good they might but....
damn, he had them going for a WEEK and they got nothing, that's pretty damn good, imo, IF they did, indeed, scoop him. It is likely but, until the text message, it is NOT confirmed, imo.

It took them all this time to find a turn-coat, again if they did, and it didn't happen till the very end.

The Obama campaign did a great job on this!

16. Agreed.
If the rumors that the source was Bayh turn out to be true, there was little the Obama camp could have done to avoid it leaking.

The fact that they kept it in-house this long (and got an incredible amount of airtime out of it) is impressive.

18. They wouldn't have if it had been announced this afternoon.
This afternoon I made several posts indicating that the ideal moment to announce was about to pass and predicting that the pick would be leaked if Obama didn't announce right away. For my trouble I was verbally abused by several DU'ers.

Oh well. ;)

19. Not sure I agree.
Delaying the announcement only meant that the media would obsess over it through prime-time on a Friday evening. The news coming out now means that it'll be the primary topic on every Sunday news show and covered 24/7 on every cable news station for the entire weekend.

You're right in that it was going to be leaked, but I'm not sure that I agree that that was a bad thing. :)
