It's Biden, unless Biden is a ruse to cloak an unexpected pick
I think it's Biden though. I really don't think it has all been an orchestrated series of head fakes. That's just a bit too far fetched for me to buy. It won't be Kaine because he doesn't bring enough credentials to the table to firm up Obama. Instead he would draw attention to a rookie status ticket. It won't be Bayh because he would drain too much enthusiasm from Obama's activist base given his DLC status and prior Neo-Con lite foreign policy views on Iraq in particular. It won't be Sebelious because she has no national security creds and won't cut it as a female alternative to Hillary for those who rallied to Clinton.

A surprise could be Hillary Clinton, or Wes Clark, or perhaps Chet Edwards or even I suppose Al Gore. If Biden were being used as a ruse it would be to preserve the surprise inpact of Obama naming one of those people VP, or someone else along off the beaten path lines. That's pretty unlikely at this point I think, and would reflect more of a secret plan than I think can reasonably be expected.

3. Al Gore? Maybe it's the tooth fairy.
Why do people keep including the impossible choice of Al Gore?

11. Oh I think Gore is an EXTREMELY unlikely pick
But he would match the profile of breaking bombshell news that could at least partially explain why an elaborate attempt was made to give false leads to keep eyes off him. I suppose in that unlikely scenario Obama would have pre negotiated some type of special role for Gore in his Administration, beyond what any VP has had before. I remember the failed Gerald Ford/ Ronald Reagan negotiations that once took place in the Republican Party along those lines.

But I think Gore is the least likely plausible long shot.

14. I think that problem drives a stake through this possibility...
...otherwise I would say that Chet Edwards might be the type of guy Obama might pick if he really wanted to go with Bayh but knew there was too much organized opposition among activists to Bayh. Springing Chet Edwards at the last second would get around that and make it a done deal before anyone could react to stop it.

6. Hope it's a surprise....
Biden is NOT an agent of change.
Totally undercuts the message of his campaign.
It's a mistake.
Not fatal, but after losing two elections by one red state, it doesn't make sense.

13. It's Biden.
They wouldn't use a guy like Biden as part of some ruse -- it would be totally disrespectful. And Biden wouldn't allow himself to be used that way.

16. I thought of that too
It's one of many strong reasons why I think it is Biden also. But maybe if the deal was that Biden was promised Secretary of State in return it might be conceivable.

21. Did they use him.
Seems to me that it's the media that is pushing Biden not the Obama campaign.

17. But what evidence is there that it IS Biden,
outside of media speculation? How has he been "used" by the Obama campaign? They haven't done one thing to suggest is is Biden.

18. It's all faint tea leaves at best
Mostly the fact that public notice of the decision is being held back to the last second while the whole media is focused on Biden. If it wasn't Biden a case could be made that Obama should have cut this short before now to spare him going through this. A debateable casae, but some could make it.

There have been some totally unverifyable rumours for what that is worth. There are no leaks saying that Biden has gotten a call saying he isn't the guy, whlie there have been for most of the others (or news of non vetting). Biden's family is said to have gathered at his home. Biden pulled back his "I'm not the guy" statement. Biden said he would take the job if asked though he said Obama should think long and hard before naming someone as notoriously independent as him. Biden fits the bill well for the criteria Obama laid out. And finally I think he simply makes more sense than any of the others who keep getting mentioned.

20. If I was a betting man....
I would give Biden at least a 65% chance. Clinton, maybe 15%. Clark about 8% and the remaining 12% of so to none of the above.
