Will it take down the text messaging system?
The number of text messages that will go out simultaneously to announce the VP pick could be the single biggest text blast ever done. I wonder how the text messaging systems are going to handle the load?

4. It's only two million texts.
That will not be the single biggest blast ever done. Maybe in the US, but not in the world. And the daily aggregate in the US is MUCH hiogher than that, just not from one user.

And they wont go out simultaneously. They will qued up at the netwok gateways and go out in a controlled fashion.

This will not be any big deal for the wireless networks.

7. I concur that they CAN do it well...
and I guess I hope they will. But if they just put it all in one big blast and hit Send it would be sort of like a DOS attack on their carrier's text messaging system. Yes, aggregate load is higher than that, but this is incremental load and if it were all dumped into the system at once it seems like it would make a difference.

8. bulk messaging
passes through gateways that meter the flow of the messages. This is all done with dedicated bulk messaging applications. I work in the mobile technology field. Believe me, this will be no big deal for the operators. Just another day at the office.
