Linda Ellerbee used to speak about when she got a tip in 1976. A friend of hers worked for the company that manufactured the "Vote For Jimmy Carter" buttons, and that they were told that evening that the building was going to be cleared because they were going to run the new design with Carter's running mate's name, so they'd be ready in the morning when the announcement came.
She wound up sneaking into the building and crawling through the rafters, trying to get photographs as the buttons came off the press. She was able to see buttons but couldn't get a photo.
If I remember correctly, it wouldn't have made a difference, since the run that was done that night was a red herring, and the actual materials were printed somewhere else. The buttons she supposedly saw? "VOTE FOR CARTER AND BAYH." As in Birch Bayh!
