HoosiersForChange: New group looks to unite Hoosier progressives
From their website:

A group of progressive, democratic, and other like-minded people across Bloomington and the state of Indiana that meets to discuss local, regional, and national politics and to take action in helping elect progressive democrats to office. Discussion and action are our goals so all Democrats, Independents and even Republicans are invited to join!

1. Indiana needs alot of change.
Indiana has voted republican in every presidential election since Lyndon Johnson. For the life of me I do not understand why except for three reasons.

1.) God
2.) Guns
3.) Farms

1.) Indiana has a high church going rate, many of them are duped by W's social stances even though he could care less.

2.) Indiana has a high gun ownership. The GOP plays that crowd to the hilt.

3.) Indiana has many farms. The GOP caters to farmers on the surface but again they really could care less.

I have lived in Indiana most of my life except for my six years with the Navy.

Indiana ahas lost thousand if not hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs under the guise of Trickle Down Economics.

Yet Indiana continuously votes against their best interest.

... and because of it we have one of the worst brain drains in the country.

Keep the people ignorant and scared and they aren't hard to control.

10. agree
I work in Carmel and am reminded daily of my desire to bulldoze the entire town. I think Indianapolis could use a huge park on the Northside.

5. Oh shit

I hate that. I am networking with some people in Indiana that will have me living out there within 2 years (job, college, etc)...I'd hate to think I'd give up one wing nut state (VA) for another.

11. Thanks--Im still coming if the timing is right
If I can handle growing up near Richmond, Virginia and living in the rural parts of Western Virginia (Warren, Clarke, Franklin County area) then I can handle anything.

My wife and I have yet to visit Indiana, but have earmarked areas around Bloomington because of its proximity to IU, its proximity to Indianapolis (the zoo), and the incredible demographic that has (I think) 20% of the people holding post-graduate degrees. In addition, the COL as compared to the Northern Virginia area is amazing and it would free up our income to dedicate to other initiatives other than just paying bills.

7. I am a little moderate
I do believe in tough immigration laws or at least reasonable laws. I do no think just cause swim ashore or cross a border you should be treated just like a citizen. I think we can at least enforce the rule that if you break a law and are an illegal alien you should be deported.

This might be cold but the United States can not become the flop house for everyone from a third world country.

I don't blame people from fleeing their homeland. I blame their leaders.
