GOP 527 to show smoking WTC ruins, ask if Kerry would have been up to job
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 07:55 PM by oldhat
Unfuckingbelievable.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/8/25/20822/1919

Progress for America plans to begin airing ads today in two battleground states, Wisconsin and Iowa, says Mr. McCabe. The ads question whether Sen. Kerry would have adequately handled the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.

One of the commercials opens with the smoky ruins of the Twin Towers and moves to several pictures of Mr. Bush with New York firefighters and other rescue workers. A narrator praises Mr. Bush's leadership, and asks: "But what if Bush wasn't there? Could John Kerry have shown this leadership?" Then the ad ticks off votes by Sen. Kerry that it portrays as being against intelligence and Defense Department budgets.

14. That's freakin' right!
New York City would not have as many dead as they did..maybe not the pentagon either...but that was their plan wasn't it?

Are they sure they want to open that particular Can-O-Worms?

4. Well those ads will last about two minutes
Have they learned nothing? I was just at Ground Zero last week. It's like going to a sacred site - these ads will make everybody furious and they will quickly be pulled, with more of their millions wasted.

Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 07:54 PM by zidzi
if Gore were Pres...the bush team dropped the ball AGAIN.

Ask bush what he's done for the firefighters in New York City?

Better yet, ask the Firefighters..they tell the truth..bush would just lie again like he has been for the 55 years.

6. ROFLMAO!!!
Yeah, right.

Does Kerry know "My Pet Goat?"

I can't believe they would leave themselves open for a response on this issue. 9/11 didn't happen because Kerry might have voted 1 way or another. 9/11 happened because * was asleep at the wheel and preferred vacation.

BRING IT ON!!

7. Saw that on Countdown I think
Keith said how it was misleading because Cheney proposed cutting the same weapons and our current CIA director nominee proposed many more cuts than Kerry. Also there's the actual fact that Kerry proposed cuts after the Cold War and there were to act as a deficit cutting scheme.

12. Bush's Incompetent "Team" Gets Us Whacked
Bush's despicable base heaps nothing but contempt on New York City for years.

And yet the smoking ruins of the World Trade Center are a positive for Bush? These people really are delusional.

"Here's the biggest national security blunder of all time. It happened on my watch. Vote for me!"

If this dangerous incompetent is ever elected to national office, we are in truly deep trouble.

15. Kerry was shutting down terrorists' banks while Bush was doing deals with
them.

Kerry was working to put terror funders like Salem Bin Laden under arrest while Bush was selling his Harken shares to him.

Kerry's work to shut down terrorist funding was met by resistance and stonewalling by the Reagan and Bush administrations to protect their own dealings with the terror banks and money launderers and that of their corporate cronies.

20. Haven't they already done polls showing the
majority of Americans do not like 9/11 being exploited? Isn't seeing Bush in his "finest hour" just going to remind people how disastrous things went down from there? Won't most people be reminded of a man who despite the tragedy of events had the most golden opportunity of probably any President to not only unite Americans but gain support from the allies like never before? Won't most people be reminded of how foolishly he squandered the opportunity? I just don't see this going over well at all.

21. LOL. I think the'll see that Kerry has handled their smear quite well.
And so will the public. :hi:

I think Bush is opening him up to a 'pet goat' controversy on this one.

I think Kerry should do a photo op with the book, and say ... Bush's idea of leadership in a time of crisis is reading "My Pet Goat" ~ WE CAN DO BETTER AMERICA!

All they gotta do is run that part of F911 or something with a little editing so they don't have to pay for thw whole 7 minutes.

29. Read about the Ramzi Yousef case, mastermind of 1993 WTC bombing
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 09:13 PM by IndianaGreen
Read the following 1995 article, and your hair will stand on end. The author is trying to make the case that there was a connection to Iraq, but what is significant is that the FBI had detailed plans of Al-Qaeda hijacking aircraft and crashing them into buildings. Most of the material was not translated until after 9/11.

Who was head of the FBI? Louis Freeh, a man that did not even had a computer in his office (he did not like them) and a member of the rightwing Catholic cult Opus Dei.

The National Interest, Winter, 1995/96

THE WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMB:
Who is Ramzi Yousef? And Why It Matters
by Laurie Mylroie

ACCORDING TO THE presiding judge in last year's trial, the bombing of New York's World Trade Center on February 26, 1993 was meant to topple the city's tallest tower onto its twin, amid a cloud of cyanide gas. Had the attack gone as planned, tens of thousands of Americans would have died. Instead, as we know, one tower did not fall on the other, and, rather than vaporizing, the cyanide gas burnt up in the heat of the explosion. "Only" six people died.

Few Americans are aware of the true scale of the destructive ambition behind that bomb, this despite the fact that two years later, the key figure responsible for building it--a man who had entered the United Stares on an Iraqi passport under the name of Ramzi Yousef--was involved in another stupendous bombing conspiracy. In January 1995, Yousef and his associates plotted to blow up eleven U.S. commercial aircraft in one spectacular day of terrorist rage. The bombs were to be made of a liquid explosive designed to pass through airport metal detectors. But while mixing his chemical brew in a Manila apartment, Yousef started a fire. He was forced to flee, leaving behind a computer that contained the information that led to his arrest a month later in Pakistan. Among the items found in his possession was a letter threatening Filipino interests if a comrade held in custody were not released. It claimed the "ability to make and use chemicals and poisonous gas... for use against vital institutions and residential populations and the sources of drinking water." Quickly extradited, he is now in U.S. custody awaiting trial this spring.

Ramzi Yousef's plots were the most ambitious terrorist conspiracies ever attempted against the United States. But who is he? Is he a free-lance bomber? A deranged but highly-skilled veteran of the Muslim jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan? Is he an Arab, or of some other Middle Eastern ethnicity? Is there an organization--perhaps even a state--behind his work?
