The Vice Presidential announcement. "How would you handle it".
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 06:25 AM by raebrek
Okay, I was sitting here this morning marveling at the rain brought to me by Miss Fay the tropical depression and I was thinking about the impending Vice Presidential announcement. How could it have the strongest effect. I admit I have also recently been thinking about the Stephen King movie "The Lawn Mower-man". You know at the end of the movie when all of the telephones in the world ring in unison and you know that he made it into the grid.

So I put these two ideas together and this is what I came up with. Barrack is giving a speech to a large televised crowd. Where? I don't know it doesn't matter to me. It has to be televised. He tells everyone that the time has come to announce his selection for VP. Then he pulls out his cell phone and sends the text heard around the world announcing his VP running mate. All of the people in the audiences cell phones start beeping because they have received the text message. All the people at home watching the event. Their cell phones beep too because like the audience watching it live they also signed up to receive the text message.

Then with out him saying a single word, the crowd erupts with applause because they all now know his choice.

I think it would be monumental. Can you one up me on this idea? How would you handle the announcement?

1. You Have a Future In Screenwriting!
Very dramatic. It might even work. That would be something to see.

5. Dramatic yes
But it isn't an original idea as Stephen King already had it. :)

3. Yeah, I can't beat that. That'd be a pretty cool moment right there.
But all this drama building is really hard to handle for me because I really just want to know. The endless speculation is driving me nuts.

9. i think the whole thing is juvenile
"I made my choice but I'm not telling"???

C'mon this is very high-school and beneath the dignity of the circumstances

Peace

10. I think you miss the point.
He has setup a large group of people that are waiting for the text message that will tell who his VP will be. If he did it live as I have suggested it would be a great moment in history I think. If it went well it may be a memory that people will talk about for years. I remember where I was when I received that text message from President Obama.

That doesn't mean that after the applause had died down that he wouldn't say who the VP was going to be. I mean, how else is McCain going to find out who it is?

11. Not only that, a large, large number of Obama's followers are
of the "texting" generation. I'm older, I'm still looking for my IBM Selectric. This is appealing to this group, and why not? They've worked so hard and can identify with this type of unified messaging. I love it, it's different and appealing to all ages.

12. not missing the point at all
the whole "letting the world know by texting" is not really "cutting edge", it is a gimmick. I hope I am wrong but I am still in doubt as to how many of those who are waiting breathlessly for their text message are actually going to drag their asses to the polls in November.

15. Yes, and it could really bomb.
I don't know how many people have signed up to receive the text message. If it were only a few thousands then the gimmick would bomb horribly.
