To the backers of any particular VP possibility
Good luck to you and your choice.:toast:

In the era of the activist VP, be it the diligent Al Gore or the busy criminal Dick Cheney, I still have trouble thinking choice of running mate matters too much. I think Obama will nominate someone decent and capable and hopefully at least a little bigger, a little more transcendent than he or she strictly needs to be. I hope he surprises the hell out of everyone, actually.

But whatever he does, I don't think a great deal turns on it electorally. A lot may turn on it after election victory, of course. Viz: Dick Cheney.

11. Half or full, as long as it's roughly the same as usual....
...and washed down with reasonably high quality liquor.

The cheap stuff will ruin the quaalude buzz and you'll be rec'ing, or wrecking, everything in sight.

(small critters and children, take heed)...

2. Bravo...
:toast:

Best wishes to all, and most of all to the candidate.

I look forward to moving forward with the "team", sans speculation.

7. Seconded
Good luck to all of you and each of your candidates, and may the best man or woman win.

We will know quite soon. No matter who it is, let's go out there and win.

9. Yup ...

People have made careers over trying to figure out whether a VP pick really means anything in terms of winning or losing elections. The most definitive answer after you get past all the "solid" arguments that go one way or another is "Hell if I know ..." It's *possible* Ferraro hurt Mondale, but that assumes Mondale had a snowball's chance at all. Other than her, the worst VP pick among the major two parties in the last 30 years was Quayle, and that didn't really seem to hurt Bush. What's interesting about studying that election is that Dukakis had one of the best picks, according to the conventional wisdom of VP picks, i.e. someone that balances the ticket. I did know people who voted for Dukakis because of Bentsen, but Dukakis still lost spectacularly.

And then there's Gore. Gore was considered a horrible choice at the time, a centrist Democrat from the South running with a centrist Democrat from the South, and Tipper's crusade against a song that mentioned masturbation openly was still fresh on the minds of left-wingers everywhere.

Anyway, other than that, the only reason this is important to me at the moment is that I want it over with. I'm B-O-R-E-D with all the hand-wringing over who it might be.
