North Carolina:

Gramps: 45%
Obama: 43%
Barr: 5%
Nader: 1%

614 Likely voters taken 8/19 plus/minus 4%

Also Dole is in a fight for her senate seat as the match vs. Hagen is tied 40-40

3. How dare you interrupt the "concerned about Obama" and
"the only person who can be chosen as VP starts with the initial H" threadfest with (gasp) GOOD NEWS!

You have a lot of nerve!

All joking aside, that is good news, thanks for posting it, much appreciated!

Recommended.

14. I consider a Hillary for VP thread to be just as positive a thing as a
Biden for VP thread, a Richardson for VP thread, a Kerry for VP thread, a Clark for VP thread, a Sebelius for VP thread, and a Gore for VP thread.

The only VP threads I consider negative are ones that mention Bayh or Kaine.

16. LOL, yeah, I am sure you do!
Oh, and did you hear about the e-mail campaign happening? Nah, I am sure you haven't so let me give you a heads-up:

Clinton partisans waging fierce cyber campaign to derail Obama

By BARTHOLOMEW SULLIVAN
Scripps Howard News Service
2008-08-19 00:00:00

WASHINGTON -- A massive e-mail and Internet campaign is under way aimed at derailing the nomination of Barack Obama and making Hillary Clinton the party's standard bearer next week in at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"It's downright nasty," said Memphis, Tenn., super-delegate and City Council member Myron Lowery, who has shared dozens of the messages he's received with The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal newspaper.

"I think it's divisive for the 'Support Hillary' campaign to continue at this time. She made the decision to fully support Mr. Obama," said Lowery, who initially supported Clinton but later switched his allegiance to Obama. "I don't know why they're not taking their cue from Hillary and falling in line."

Lowery said he does not believe Clinton herself is behind the effort, but that it's "her supporters, acting on their own because they're proud of what they have done for her."

more, much more

I think Obama can win in NC in Nov. And I hope Libby Dole loses her seat. She is so phony and dishonest.

13. This is wonderful news but I am not surprised.
I said since day one that I thought Obama would take NC and I still do.

I live here and there is excitement in my state. I tell you, I don't see why the focus is only on VA because we are GOING to win NC. People should be just as excited about taking this wonderful state in the GE because it has even more electoral votes as VA... and it IS going blue.

Those who follow my posts know I am very honest and piss people off when I try and point out what I see as people over hyping Obama's chances in some areas... so I am not over hyping this. I am being honets when I tell you that it looks, from everything I see on the ground, like this state is ours.

17. We're not going to carry North Carolina
The state is simply too conservative. That's the bottom line. I know it's more sexy to grasp every recent poll and dissect the meaning, but as someone who started scrutinizing this stuff in '96 for betting purposes I learned to isolate the most critical factors.

2004 North Carolina exit poll: 17% self-identified liberals, 44% self-identified conservatives. That's way out of reach, other than a landslide which 2008 will not be.

If you want a basic guideline, retreat to 2004 and see which states had 38% self-identified conservatives or fewer. Those states are in play this time. Our landscape advantage provides more reach than a typical cycle, but no chance once you get to 40% or higher.

Even with Bush at 30% approval range for 3 years, the national liberal/conservative percentage has barely moved. That's much more indicative than Party ID. The liberal/conservative gap has closed maybe 1 point in our favor.
